Motul Motor Oil

It seems like Motul is the motor oil of choice for the 650gt...Is this a blend? and is it actually better than the OEM oil it comes with? What kind of oil does it come with anyway? Your thoughts?
 
All of my cars always got Mobil 1 oil. Really good stuff. But this scooter is a new animal. I'd like to use a fully synthetic oil but I haven't found anything that I am sure would work better than the recommended BMW oil unfortunately. Plus with a 3 year warranty and my doing my own oil changes I'd rather use what BMW wants me too. But I am really tempted to go against that as I'd rather have a full synthetic.

I buy the BMW stuff. All things considered, a couple of quarts of the recommended oil, even at a higher cost, is still relatively cheap given the cost of the bike and it takes out any guesswork.
 
So I changed the oil today the bike had 4950 miles on it, I really didn't want to go 6000 miles before changing it and I am going on a trip in Sept.3 I must say it was quite easy no problems I used a Hiflo 164 filter and Motul 5100 15w/50 SJ MA oil I have used both of these products before with good results. So after doing the change did a test drive checked for leaks (none found) But I couldn't get the oil OK Symbol to to come up, Well you have to drive about 10 miles to get the bike to temp.and it has to be running and stopped before it will come up It shares the same Icon space as the tire pressure. I hate being hostage to technology and thinking there may be something with the bike after I changed the oil.
 
How is the oil level by using the dipstick?

I've had a couple of bikes that required you to screw the dipstick back in, but I always found that a STUPID design. It's a DIPstick, not a SCREWstick. Doesn't take much engineering know-how to put the high/low marks in the appropriate spot so screwing it in should be necessary for God's sake (my old airhead comes to mind).

Of course, it would be even better if it had a sight glass like my old TMAX or my K1200LT...
 
My mechanic said that in order to get a proper oil level reading that the bike has to have been run long enough to get the oil quite hot. He says the bike has an oil cooler controlled by a thermostat and that unless it is open not all the oil is returned to get a reading.

I'm used to the simpler method of just letting it run for a small time to circulate to get a reading - however - this bikes requires the oil to be quite hot.
