Fuel cover

Can someone please post a photo of the underside of there fuel cover (preferably a GT) as my tab for the fuel latch has broken off. I would like to try to duplicate the tab shape

I've rebuilt broken tabs like that with ABS cement and powder. I'm not sure if the lid is ABS plastic or something else but one could scrape the paint off somewhere in the inside and see if it's a black plastic. If it is, it's pretty easy to cut a piece of ABS from a black plastic pipe fitting from a hardware store and the black, gooey ABS cement in the round can from the same source. I used a sander to make up some putty by mixing ABS cement with ABS powder to a moldable consistency. All bets are off if it's not ABS but Honda's fairings are mostly made of ABS on the Goldwings and Silverwing scooters as well as many other models so maybe BMW did the same.
 
As for material the cover is made of I am pretty sure it is not abs. I think it is the same or similar to the plastic model kits we had as kids. I am not sure what I am going to use but I may use a piece of very thin sheet metal folded into shape using epoxy to fix it in place

I checked the part number online at islandbmw.ca and maxbmw but it never came up. The drawings do not show the cover either. For $30 it is not worth repairing. Maybe even with a new one knowing that this tab will break I can reinforce the tab.

Colin was your replacement cover painted or unpainted? Others have broken the cover off and replaced them at around $75 not questioning the price as I have seen items cheaper here in Canada for considerably less than in the USA

My local dealer's book showed about $80 for a painted one. It was a red '13 fuel flap. Looks like a repair is in order. Even if you have to make a catch out of aluminum and flush rivet it in place it wouldn't be all that obtrusive.
