Seat not unlocking consistantly

Most of the time I come out to the scooter with one hand full of stuff and I use the other hand to attempt to unlock the seat. It almost always doesn't unlock so I have to put all of my stuff down on the ground and pull up on the seat while unlocking it.

I haven't noticed any adjustment screw or anything. Is anyone else having this issue and how did you fix it?
 
When I leave the scooter in the garage and have the seat open last time I used the scooter, I leave the seat open. When I open it when it is locked closed I normally put a tiny bit of pressure on it to unlock (not that I need to). I just do not like to put unnecessary pressure on the cable. I have not had any issue opening the seat (except the time I locked the key under the seat). If the cable was to break at the key end yes you can get the seat open but if the cable was to break under the seat you may never see the underside of the seat again and that scares me the most.

I ordered a new key and now have 3 one in my safe at home one on my daily key ring and one hidden under the scooter.

No problems on my GT even though today I rode it not entirely closed for 1 1/2 hrs after packing an attaché case, an XL leather jacket, two large bulky sweatshirts, a liner to my new riding jacket, and a coat hanger (?...well it came with the jacket) in addition to some other miscellaneous stuff. I was concerned I might misshape the seat so it wouldn't close, but after unloading it closed ok.
 
No problems with my GT but when storing full face helmet under there which requires a little pressure to close, I put pressure on seat when opening in order to get the lock to pop. Probably not a good practice on my part.

Find where the helmet is hitting under the seat and/or at the bottom of the storage compartment. Both bike surfaces are made of ABS, which you can heat with a heat gun and tap/form when softened to increase clearance. Had to do it to a Majesty I used to own, when I put a SENA Bluetooth on a SYMAX II modular helmet. Had to form a recess in the storage compartment floor to fit the SENA on the helmet. Easy, cheesy..
 
Ok, clearly I need to spend more face time with my owner's manual....So, how come the extra keys? Not being scooter savvy, I never even thought about not being able to get into the seat storage area.
 
Since the seat release is operated by a cable, it seems perfectly normal that it would start having problems after substantial use given the short movement and long distance from actuator (ignition key) to release. All cables stretch and require adjustment (parking break lever in your car or shifting cables on your bicycle). Has anyone investigated where/how to make that adjustment? I find it hard to believe (and if true, troubling) that BMW engineers did not consider cable stretch!
