Well, it's actually been a few years since I installed that cheap, no-name H7 bulb and it burned out this morning. I see people have said you can replace the bulb without removing the body panels so I'll try this afternoon when I go to lunch.

Cool. Yep, it's VERY do'able with a little practice.

Yeah, I'm DEFINITELY going to need more practice. Double-edged sword... I hope I don't have to do it again any time soon.

PS: I made a correction to my initial post. It's an "H7" bulb, NOT an "H4" in our scooters.

It is a procedure that you do by feel so the more practice the easier it gets, cars that use this bulb are similar - rubber cover, metal clip and not much space to work in. Good to be able to do when on the road or on a trip rather than have to take tupperware off and take things apart. In the automobile world bulbs like this can be as easy as reach in with easy access and visibility to requiring the entire bumper or front fascia having to be removed to replace a headlamp. As far as bulb changes go, I'd rate it a 3 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most difficult.

Glad you were able to get it done. Hope you bought the same brand and it last just as long as the last!

It is essentially the same thing I have to do to change the bulb on my K1200LT. The difference being, there is a LOT more room to work with under the K1200LT's fairing than under the C650GT's fairing...

Well, I put a curse on myself by replying to this thread, tonight, start up to ride home from work...

Low beam out, same one replaced on trip in September, maybe 3-4K miles ago. It was even an Osram, made in Germany and not some cheap Chinese one.

Grabbed a new unbranded made in Germany H7 at work. It wasn’t dark yet so I just rode home with Aux lights and the LED light on.

I don’t know what BMW charges to replace these, but it took me less than 5 minutes without removing any panels, just reaching up and from behind. Remove rubber cover, unplug bulb, unhook clip by pinching together. Fit new bulb into place and replace clip (this is usually what gives people most trouble) plug bulb back in and replace rubber cover. Be careful not to touch glass on bulb when replacing. I was surprised it went so well, I was figuring about 10-15 minutes.

I had Cross Country replace my bulb a few years back. They charged $25 for labor to replace the bulb.

I have 50000 km on my scooter and have replaced the bulb twice (so now I am on my third bulb) the first time it took a bit of fiddling around but the second time it took about 3-4 minutes

I also use the cheapest bulb at $10

I made a mod that allows both head lights to be on for low and hi beams.
