Anyone else had this problem? I have a BMW C400GT, brand new, 1 month old. I noticed just now. Is it something to be worried about?
Thank you

Well, it certainly doesn't look like mine. Here's a pic I just took -- 2023 C 400 GT, purchased new last year, a little over 4,000 miles on it now:

I'd at least mention it to the dealer, i.e., get it on record, for a future warranty claim, if the cable fails later on. Are you the first owner, the bike still under warranty, that sort of thing?

Brand new. Sent it to the dealer for the first 1000km service. I called them an hour ago and the sent me the picture of how the transport company delivered it. Apparently the transport company did this, check the picture, the way the tied the motorbike is horrible, just over the ABS cable.

Nice of them to have that photo!

So, will they be ordering a new cable for you, and installing it, all without cost to you?

Guarantee doesn’t cover it obviously since it’s the transportation company’s mistake, so I will claim the money from the transportation company. Since the dealer is far from me (I’m the guy that was thinking of sacrificing the guarantee and eventually I didn’t), I won’t send it again there since there’s a risk of causing more damage. Next time I’m driving for the next service (probably April 2025), I will replace it there. Do you think if a local mechanic replaces it (not BMW), I will lose the guarantee?
Thankfully the dealer told me it doesn’t cause any issue, and I can glue it until they replace it.

1) Oops, sorry, I forgot from earlier posts that you were the person concerned about the distance from the dealer.

2) So, do I have this correct, you were the one who contracted with the shipping company, to get the bike to the dealer?

3) If you get the shipper to pay for a new sensor and cable, then I think you should also get them to pay for the labor involved in replacing it (or pay you some amount, if you do it yourself).

4) I don't see why having the sensor and cable replaced by a local mechanic would void your BMW warranty.

5) If you get a new sensor and cable*, I just looked, and it doesn't seem very difficult to replace it yourself, if you feel like doing this. Here are the two relevant pages from the shop manual:

The first three items involve just taking out six screws.

I admit that removing bodywork panels is not a lot of fun, but it is not all that difficult, either. The removal of some (or maybe all) of those panels is covered in the owner's manual -- i.e., you don't even need a shop manual for that -- as BMW considers it part of routine maintenance (refilling the coolant tank, for instance).

I've removed almost all of the front and rear bodywork myself a couple of times now (to add electrical goodies, on a '22 and now on a '23), and it is just sort of tedious, but not rocket science: you have some T25 screws and a bunch of springy metal V-shaped clips -- the trick there is to work your way around a bodywork piece (with, say, a nylon bodywork pry bar, the kind used for car trim work), pulling it out a little all around, so you are not bending it very much in any one spot.

6) * Regarding the part, I also just looked, and it appears that the sensor and cable are one unit, BMW part # 34525A781C5. Here are a couple of pics from the parts fiche at Max BMW (https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=60292&rnd=09082020), a large (four-location) BMW moto shop in the USA:

You will note that the sensor-and-cable is not cheap, either: USD 205.56 (plus shipping). The good news is that I just did a Google search for bmw part 34525A781C5 europe and it looks like it's close to half the cost that Max wants from some of those suppliers.

Good luck with your claim.

Thank you so much for the help! I will try to do it myself, although my friend is an engineer so that would be the easy way haha.
2) Yes that’s me.
4) Hope so, will ask.
6) I have asked about the price from the official dealer.
