    Lighting Failure

Whaaaat? Although this didn't make any sense to me (shouldn't the lights run off the alternator as well?) I decided to check it out while I was in there looking around. Apparently, justscootin nailed it - the positive battery connections was loose on the post. While there isn't any proof that...

    Lighting Failure

I was on my way home last night (on my 2013 C650GT) when all the lights went out. No, I'm not being metaphorical, I really mean all the lights went out. There were no headlights, no driving lights, no turn signals. Also no horn, no tach or speedo, no dash lights, no aftermarket driving lights...

    meaning of your username

me, too I'm sure there's an interesting story behind my screenname, but I'm not sure I remember what it was...

    Stupid Clutch Question

Which is better for clutch life? Soft gentle slow mild clutch engagement from a stop? Full speed ahead twist the throttle force the engagement quickly? One is a gentle but lengthy clutch engagement, the other is briefer but more forceful. ???

Has Anyone in the U.S. Actually Had the New Tensioner Timing Chain Installed?

I just received the second letter saying that the parts should be in and to schedule a visit to the dealer. Didn't hear a sound out of my timing chain, but going to get the upgraded part anyway.

Prepping for a Long Distance Ride

All good advice so far - I would add a Kryptonite-type U lock or chain and padlock for securing the bike overnight. Also, a small flashlight and a spare key might come in handy.

    DR Pulley 3020 vs 3020R ?

Copied from another earlier post: "Hi guys, I am Dirk from Dr.Pulley shop Europe. In the photo I see the sliding rolls SR3020/8-28 . They are made for Kymco Myroad 700. If you need the SR rolls for BMW, you should order SR3020R/8-28 The shape of the rolls is different ! It works with SR3020/8-...

Summary of computer updates, service bulletins, and recalls please.

While I was waiting on the replacement engine for mine (replaced because of a flawed casting) the dealer said 'just keep driving it, if it dies it will just roll to a top, then call us". It never died so I don't know what would happen for sure, but it seems that it would just coast to a stop.

Ghost in the hazard light button

If you turn the key off and the parking lights are still on, you can still activate the hazard flashers even with the key removed. The parking lights remain on for 30 seconds or so after the ignition key is turned off. At any time while the lights are still on, you can turn the flashers on or...

Powered USB Port and Semi-Permanent Phone/GPS Mount

I did the 'notch' thing as well - I installed an switched cigarette lighter socket/usb port combination in the right storage box connected to the battery (so that the phone can charge whenever it is connected to the bike). When the bike is in the garage, it lives on a Battery Tender so there is...

    Timing Chain Tensioner Recall

Just for fun, I looked up the procedure to change the Cam Chain Tensioner (or CCT hereinafter). The good news is that the CCT is accessible externally - once the right side panels and footrests are removed it can be unbolted without having to disassemble the engine further. The other news is...

    Timing Chain Tensioner Recall

Good advice in any case, but the 'Technical Features' document says about the cam chain " The chain is routed around the sprockets, using a guide and tensioner rail as well as a spring-loaded cam chain tensioner to ensure zero play." I am hoping that the recall is released soon, that way I can...

Givi Sidecase Mounting WITH BMW Rear Rack?

I finally received the GIVI sidecases and mounts yesterday. I mounted the Givi sidecases along with the BMW rear rack. I also had to notch the BMW rear rack and the plastic cover so that the Givi mount would fit. The piece removed was only 1/8" at the widest and about an inch long from the front...

    Ear Cannon

One of the downsides to mounting the components separately is the delay that can be induced. The compressor now has to build pressure in the (much longer) hose before the air horn is activated. Add to that the normal delay that the compressor takes to 'spin up' and you may see a unwanted delay...
