2023 Schuberth C5

I recently purchased a new Schuberth C5 to replace an aging Arai Signet X. There was an Arai Signet that I liked but that paint scheme I wanted never went on sale, and I try not to pay full price. I have a long oval head and purchased an LS2 Valliant, which is actually quite good overall, but I really liked the modular feature. Anyhow, I've ridden about 600 miles on 3 bikes wearing the C5; the C400GT, an 18 NC750X, and my buddy's Sportster. It is as comfortable as the Arai but definitely heavier. But where this thing excels is in how quiet it is. Believe the hype. The Arai, also very quiet, does not hold a candle to the C5. The viewport is really well designed and provides an excellent field of view. The optical clarity on the external and internal visor is excellent. The internal smoked visor (other colors are available) does a great job until the sun is low then it is acceptable, but glasses are better. The vents work incredibly well, and it has an anti-fog vent that allows you to defog with the visor fully closed. I bought the comm unit and the helmet is prewired to receive it. The comm unit is great and has a very long battery life. The helmet looks pretty good on, but I don't really care about that too much. The detents could stand to be a bit firmer. Different helmet than the Arai for sure so I don't want to say its better. But, despite its weight, I'd find it hard to go back to an Arai unless they can get as quiet as this...or if they build a modular which is unlikely. I do completely understand that helmets, just like seats, tires, engine break in, cruise/no-cruise, abs, oil, gas octane are all subjectively evaluated. But for me, this is just an outstanding helmet with an exceptional safety rating.

I have a black, open face Schuberth M1, so I don't have the quiet of a modular helmet (nor do I have the claustrophobic feeling I get from them). Unless I'm using the built-in comm system, I wear foam ear plugs so it's pretty quiet.

I bought my first Schuberth decades ago, the same day I discovered the wonders of the flip-down sun visor. I was in a BMW Motorcycle dealership and had just slipped on a red Schuberth helmet. The sales guy gave me a minute and said, "See what you think about this." He reached up and flipped the lever to drop the sun visor in front of my eyes.

"You just made a sale," I said. Amazing helmet. I wouldn't wear any other brand.

Damn why there’s no Schuberth dealers in Australia?
I ordered mine from fcmoto in Italy. It was hundreds of USD cheaper than buying it here. They’ll ship to Australia but I imagine returns might be an issue. Size was true. The good thing is that this helmet is fully adjustable for any head shape.

The really nice feature on this helmet is that it is also safety rated as a jet helmet by USDOT and ECE. You raise the chin bar, hit the lock, and it’s a 3/4 with a dropdown visor. I get the claustrophobic concerns. I developed real but intermittent claustrophobia about 6 years ago. Came out of nowhere. For whatever reason it doesn’t trigger with FF helmets.
