hallo guys..
Iam thinking to adjust the 49liters topcase from k1600gtl to my c650gts luggage grid..
I wanna know if is this possible..??
Does the luggage grid from k1600gtl is the same with the luggage grid from c650gt..?? they look like excactly the same...
You see, the original topcase for c650gt is too small for me, and before going to an after market solution i want to try with the 49lt topcase from k160gtl..
Has anyone does this before..??
I would be greatfull for any informations..

The 49lt topcase i really expensive, i dont want to buy it without make sure its fitting right on my c650gt...

I wouldn't do it. The temptation would be far too great to overload the back end of the scooter which could seriously affect handling. Items in a top case are in absolutely the WORST place to carry things on a PTW. It is up high, and behind the rear axle. By having the smaller case that BMW provides in their catalog it is almost impossible to screw up your handling (unless, of course, you're carrying your barbell weights in it).

Refer to the MSF documentation on "The Load Triangle." The best place to carry items on your scooter is under the seat (down low and between the axles). The topcase should just be a supplement.

I have a 55L Givi topcase and I have filled it on several trips with no meaningful impact on handling. 49L will be fine - if the components match up to allow you to mount it correctly. I can't tell you if they will match or not.

If you MUST carry more, add-on panniers. If that's still not enough; drive a car...

And Jaime, GOT YOUR BIKE BACK YET???

Save your money, I've already tried and although the grids look the same the cutouts are slightly different in shape. It was an almost fit scenario.
Was hoping to go the other way and fit the C650 top case on a 2014 RT. The RT can use the same top case as the k1600.
Ended up getting a 49 liter top case for the RT from eBay for $350, so wasn't a bad result.

When I do, y'all be ones of the first to know. :) But I'll give the dealership a call tomorrow. Last contact, it was all back together and working properly. Paperwork was submitted to BMW of North America, but I don't know if they've heard back from them yet. To be continued in my original thread (I don't want to hijack this one).

When you finally get it back I hope snow has not fallen or in the forecast. Either way it will probably be chilly, you better get the heated gear out. I have been using the heated jacket, grips and seat lately an the pants may come out soon

I have a large GIVI on my Sport, think it was the largest they made almost 15 years ago. No problems with handling. I think it is over 50 liters.

The weak point of an usually large top box is the rear rack on the GT. I'd be leery about the rack failing, BMW already had to replace the bolts on the rack as part of a service bulletin. My K1100LT had a similar sized top box but the mounting was quite a bit more robust. My OEM BMW top box isn't very large but I'd be careful putting much weight in it because the mounting does flex. Just try wiggiling the thing up and down. I usually carry the bulky but light stuff in mine.

If I am not mistaken I have read somewhere that the top box rack is only rated to carry 15 pounds. How much crap do you guys want to carry. I can go away for a week or more with what I can carry under the seat (tent, sleeping bag, thermarest and more) (62 litre) space and the 35 litre trunk and a few things on the back seat with 24 beers.

Wear old clothes that you want to throw out (throw them out when you want at the end of the day) have more old clothes packed to throw out the next day. When you run out buy new clothes on the road at the next wallmart. You can also mail your dirty clothes home and pick them up at the post office when you get home.

I keep reading that you want saddle bags and larger trunks. Just learn to stream line and thin out. When I rode a K75 I traveled for 3 weeks with saddle bags, tank bag and whatever I could carry on the back seat (no top box) and I realized I still had a lot of crap I was not using.

thank you for your replay an for your time spending answering, but the topic here is the technical data about fitting the luggage grid with the 49lt topcase and not finding ways to packaging and carrying clothes and other staff...i know very well what iam doing, because the things i want to carry they dont have any weight...i just need more space..
so the only thing matters to me right now is the specification of both topcases and luggage grids..
i know very well that after market manufactures they made large topcases, GIVI-V47liters, SHAD-SH48liters espesially for bmwc650gt

I built my own rack so don't worry about it.

I used to tour with a dry duffle bag over the seat and a top box. Sufficient for a two week trip. This past year I took a job which requires some travel, and realized I don't like working out of a duffle bag. One reason is I now use a Cpap machine, which is awkward to pack in a duffle, and I feel safer with it in a box. I also bring my laptop, which used to stay in the top box, and I wanted it out of there, as I like to keep the box available for camera's, telescope, and weather choice gear, stuff I need during the days ride. I bought E41 boxes, and yes they are really big!! So, I have also favored going North on trips, to the Maritimes, and find having more clothes then you need works out to having enough to keep you warm. Having the extra space allows for taking clothes for any weather, or groceries, or anything else.
Now if you are into the motorcycling as back packing, light is better theory , that's fine. To me, if I don't have to carry it, if I want it, why not bring it.

Yes, did try the C650 case on the RT rack. As I said, this was an almost fit scenario. The topbox would not quite seat down so the locking latches would engage, the angles were slightly different.

Better to investigate the Shad options, the oem is a Shad anyways.
