Akrapovic Muffler baffle screw...

Akrapovic Muffler baffle, how the heck?

I installed the muffler last night. But now I want to remove the baffle to see how much louder it might be, problem is I should have done that before hand as I can't see what type of screw is behind the rubber cap as it faces the tire.

Does anyone who removed the baffle remember off hand what type of nut and size it was? Is it a hex bolt?

How did you guys get the baffle out? I have removed the rubber plug and removed the set screw. The baffle is just stuck in there. The outside of the baffle is looking like hell now as I have been prying at it with pliers for hours. I even managed to get a hook down inside and pulled like heck at it with all my weight. it is not budging one bit...

Is there something else holding that thing in there? at the other end of the set screw is the nut and it is tack welded in place but it appears to be tack welded to the inside of the baffle that comes out so that shouldn't be an issue..

It better not be too loud when I get the baffle out because the baffle will be all managed at this point... Can anyone comment on how much louder it gets without the baffle?

Ok, so I finally conquered the stupid baffle. The baffle got mangled pretty good getting it out, but its out and it not much louder so it will stay out.

I will add one tip for other folks attempting this. It appears that after you take out the set screw that the nut left over on the inside has to come out as well. That is tack welded in so I used a hammer and a screw driver to knock it out. Once I did that I was finally able to get the baffle to slide out with MUCH force being applied from the other side. I sacrificed a pair of nunchucks as they fit down inside pretty well and used a hammer from the other side.

This was not a fun project at all. Probably not worth it if there isn't much gain. The baffle is 0.3 lbs, so I guess every little bit helps.
I really don't see how this is possible by using pliers/vicegrips with the amount of force needed.

I'm not surprised. The muffler was designed to be fully street-legal in all 50 states and NYS has a law SPECIFICALLY banning mufflers with removable baffles (no matter HOW quiet they are)...
