Belt Change Interval?

What's the mileage interval between CVT belt changes? The maintenance schedules (posted on the WbW page indicate 20km, 30km, and 40km but that doesn't make sense. I'm guessing it's really 20 and 40km and the 30 km notation is a mistake.

Ah, when you can't get up those San Francisco hills, you can take the hint!! LOL

BMW probably wasn't sure how long they would last, so chose not to speculate. Honesty by silence.

I have had no luck finding a dimension for replacement. Honda gives a dimension for their scoots, but, it is a difficult measurement to make.

The question to ask here is, has anyone had their belt start to slip, and at what mileage? Someone keep track. Who will volunteer to ride their scoot until the belt is obviously slipping? Don't do this if you are leaving for a tour.
I bought a Kevlar belt once, and replaced it right away, as it slipped almost from day one. Mallossi.

I believe that BMW had the idea of check and replace if needed at these intervals.

So the 30km is just a check and the real replacement interval is every 20km? I know of some dealers (mine included) that love to replace things at the "inspect" intervals and then charge insane rates. I'll definitely be doing my own replacement this next time (and putting in Dr. Pulley's at the same time); I was just unclear about the apparent inconsistencies in the maintenance guide.

Thanks for the feedback!

I don't think they'll replace unless the "check" warrants it.

Except, you have to have some sort of specification to "check" to. Since there are none, if you take the covers off, you might as well replace it. Otherwise , it is either slipping, or the cords are popping out, , in which case it needs to be replaced definitely .

as piece of mind i would and will change my belt every 12000 miles and i will use a genuine one. had so many bad experiences with either not changing at intervals and i would never use a kevlar belt again. it's a long push home when they let go.

I was at the dealer last November doing the 24 month check. The mileage was 17,000 km on the ODO the service center says bring it in at 20000km for a belt change. The warranty is over after 2 years, I will try to do it my self when the time comes.

if you do it yourself, either buy the BMW special tool or try and borrow one, great piece of kit and makes the job so much easier.
