After nice ride I can say the suspension changes is noticeable from a 2013 and 14 I had test rode earlier this month. A few more pics since the "selfie" was not received well.image.jpg

The revised muffler is pretty quiet but on throttle it has a nice thrap to it and overall the motor does not sound tractor like all the time. The suspension is very smooth and it's the most comfortable ride I've ever owned. And I have had a Goldwing, Roadking, and some heavy cruisers to name a few. Pick up from a start is pretty swift. Like a 2013 C600 Sport I took a long ride on. Cannot wait to put some heavy mile days on her. Btw...my garage smells soooo good. The "newness" of the metal, rubber, and plastic I guess. Someone should bottle that smell. Like a new car smell!

Black beauty is the right name. It is amazing how really good ergos can make the ride so much better in a lot of ways. There will be a few rallies within an easy ride where you will be able to show it off. And believe me, people will ask about your new Beemer.

Haha!
I feel like the earth is on its side after trying to figure out where to hook up an accessory power socket in the storage compartment. The owners manual says not to charge (want to use a battery tender) from the dash power port. May try to add a pig tail connector directly to battery if cannot find the hidden location in storage compartment and hook up one there. Does anyone know if it has nice connectors in there or will I have to splice wires? Or better yet would someone please tell me where this connection is supposedly located?
(Remember...I'm from the South...go slow please:)

Before you get too far with adding a connector, take a close look up under your fairing on the right hand side. There MAY be a Battery Tender type connector already there. I picked up my CGT just 4 days after it arrived in a crate at the dealer so I was sure one hadn't been installed but when I looked, there it was. I don't know if the dealer installed it in order to charge the battery prior to delivery or what. Since I'd already put money down on the bike when I placed the order, I'm pretty sure it wasn't installed so they could keep a charge on it while on the sales floor. Take a look, you might just have one too.

I went for a year not knowing I had a battery tender pigtail installed because I did not look carefully enough. Eventually I bought the battery tender which had the pigtail and when I removed the side panel (super easy) to install the new pigtail I found the already installed one leading down to the place I had missed before.

I charge using the lighter adapter and have had no problems. Wonder why the manual says not to use the most convenient connector.

I had read all of the previous posts from other forum members about charging through the lighter adapter but when I tried it, no luck. I asked the service people at my local dealership and they said absolutely no way that would work with CanBus on any of the newer models. I pointed out that the owners manual said that was the way to do it and they were still skeptical. Since it clearly does work on earlier bikes (mine is a 2015 model), that must have been changed at some time. I guess I'm just glad they finally got it in the manual for '16.

Hmmm. It works on my 2013 GT having got the Battery Tender to lighter adapter. So there must have been some change. A number of people have mentioned Black as the better color. Perhaps it also has additional functionality? :p

I don't think the 12V outlet on the '13s were connected through the CAN bus. I know the horn is, if you change to a louder horn such as that shown on Web Bike World there will be a battery short fault on the ECU the first time you use the horn. I found that when I installed a dual much louder dual horn. Because of that I reinstalled the OEM horn and will wait until the warranty is up before putting the dual horns back in. The fault caused by the horn won't hurt anything but it might pique the interest of a dealer when the bike goes in for service. Once the warranty is gone I don't care and can inform the dealer about that fault if I take it in.

That may also be why using the 12V socket could be a problem. It might cause the ECU to see a fault. On my bike I just wired a coaxial 12V outlet that fits my Gerbing heated gear to the battery through a 15A inline fuse with the socket mounted under the handlebar cover as shown in a previous post. I use that outlet for powering my Gerbing gear or plug my battery tender into that outlet. That direct wiring won't show a fault on the ECU since it bypasses the Can bus.

Well, unless I start taking the back end of scooter apart it appears the location of the accessory power socket will remain a mystery for me. One of the techs at the dealership said BMW makes a special charger that supposedly I can hook up through the dash power socket. I'm not an electrician by a long shot but how could this special charger hook up to the 12 volt port in dash and work but not a regular battery tender? Before I spend a hundred or so dollars on this charger does anyone have any knowledge about this ? Thanks in advance for any help. It's raining here in Dixie today so no riding until late tomorrow.

I posted earlier about being able to charge through the lighter socket. I also have a pigtail added by the dealer directly to the battery to allow charging if I choose. Some dealers automatically add a pigtail to the battery to keep float chargers connected during inventory storage. The canbus charger is expensive save your money. A battery connected pigtail is inexpensive and bypasses canbus and charges the battery directly.
