Burning Rubber Smell

I now have 600+ miles on the bike. From Day 1, after a ride, I smell burning rubber. Its not as bad as it once was, but definitely there as I park it in the closed garage.

When I went to the dealer for the ECM update, I asked him to note it in case something came of it.
I'm concerned it may be the CVT belt, but it operates fine. Another possibility are the rubber grommets that hang the cat converter. Visually, I can't see anything touching the exhaust.

Anyone else encounter this?

BTW, did the first oil change oil yesterday. No problems...

TIA, Marty in Kerrville

Hi There I also have a strong burning smell coming from my Scooter. The 650GT just went in for its 100KM service I told the shop that there was a burning smell he said he would investigate for me Clearly it is a problem ... Did you ever find out what caused it?

I have a brand new 2013 c600 and I noticed the smell as well. I have less than 60 miles on my bike. It is 3 days old. I assumed it was the exhaust or clutch. A smell of hot engine/exhaust. It was pretty strong when I pull in my garage. I haven't noticed any ill effects of any kind.

If it's a new bike, it's probably the cosmoline burning off of the engine. A lot of manufacturers put this stuff ALL OVER their vehicles to keep them looking nice and shiny on the showroom floor. I've noticed a similar "burning" smell from every motorcycle I've ever owned. It goes away after a few thousand miles.

That was my thinking also. Any lubricant or any substance on the exhaust pipe or muffler will burn off over time.

My 650GT is one month old. Just crossed over the 2000 mile mark. In the first week or so of ownership I also noticed smells similar to what was described earlier and also assumed it was packaging/manufacturing lubricants, etc just as Jaime and Oldscoot suggested in their posts. But I had never owned a new bike so I admit to be particularly sensitive to any weird new odor.

And lately I have been warming up my bike in the garage prior to riding using the stock remote start we get with all the models sold here in northern Ohio :p. The garage is ventilated but if there was anything smelling I would notice. Nothing. It all burned off as expected.

Try this - Let the bike idle on the center stand for 10 minutes or until is well warmed up. Don't give it gas and spin the rear tire. If the smell is present it's not likely coming from the clutch or belt or other part associated with the bike's transmission. All the new bikes I've owned smelled for a period of time.

I just came back from a long ride and didn't have the smell. I also didn't notic it yesterday. I think I burned off whatever was causing it. I assumed it was just part of break in.
