C650 in NY

So I was in NYC over Thanksgiving and I was really surprised at all the scoots I saw. I've been to NYC more times than I can count, but I wasn't really into scoots/motorcycles then, but now that I'm riding I guess I just notice them more on the street. I think I must have counted more than 75 Vespas with the most popular being an LX followed by the 300s. I saw few Harleys and a couple of Ducatis. Even saw a guy riding a BMW s1000RR in Soho.

I also saw my first BMW scoot, a C650 down by the World Trade Center. I've never seen another BMW scoot on the road other than my co-workers c600 which he bought a few weeks after I got mine, so I was excited.

Word to the wise for scooter riders in Manhattan: There is an "Urban Myth" that if you park illegally and remove your license plate, the police won't ticket you. That is partially true. Once you remove the plate, the police consider it an "Abandoned Vehicle" and it WILL be towed to an impound yard. Once you go to pick it up, you'll have some 'splainin' to do...

In Toronto if you park illegally the cops can ticket and tow you away
Tell them your plate was there when you parked it and it must have been stolen after you left it.
In Toronto we can park our motorcycles and scooters on the street free where a car can park that has to pay

I am down here at Hilton Head SC for a long weekend and have also seen a few scooters. All have been of the smaller variety. One parked his in the bike "thing" on the sidewalk. I laughed when I thought of parking a c600 or GT there.

In Kirkland washington, I park at the bike parking near the door. I think most people should be ok with it as I don't take up a full parking spot.
in the down town area they are sensitive to this as most streets have some motorcycle parking. It would be nice to see more cities open to this.

I often park my vespa near bicycle racks with no issues, particularly when going to a store. The same with my C600. It just depends. I really wish more places would offer motorcycle/scooter parking.

I Houston motorcycles and scooters can legally park in any parking area without paying the meter. The smaller bikes even park on the sidewalk with impunity. I wouldn't risk that with my Sport.
