Compliments Thread

So after owning my C600 about 9 months I've been amazed at the attention I get on it. I get all kinds of stares and questions about it. Anyway, figured I'd start a thread on the various compliments folks have received while riding their scoots.

1) On the way home I pulled up at an intersection and there were two kids who looked to be about 10 or 11 years old at the corner. They said, "That's a nice motorcycle, Mister!"

2) The valet guy gave me a thumbs up as I was pulling out of my office parking lot when he saw it.

3) A guy who parks near my scoot all the time stopped me one day and asked "Does that thing really do 120mph? It looks bad ass."

4) My barber, "That thing is bad ass..."

5) A guy on a Gxr1000 who pulled up next to me at a stop light "Wtf, that is a scooter?"

At a stop light, the driver next to me in a BMW suv rolled down his window, gave me a thumbs up and said, "Nice."

In another occasion, while at a stop a guy in a new Harley Davidson didn't even once turned to look at me or my 650gt..... I took that as a compliment.

I was on the freeway in silicon valley when I noticed a sports car barreling up behind me and took position in the lane next to me. The driver was all thumbs up and paced me for a mile or two.

That driver was in a McLaren MP4-12c. Although he was taken by my Sport, he was not interested in a trade.

Not a compliment exactly but as I was at the stop sign at the end of the off ramp, an old lady (blocking me from proceeding) got out of her car walked back and stated "Oh what a pretty bike. Do you know you have a headlight out?". LOL. I had to explain the whole right hand low, left hand high beam thing to her!

Been there done that...

This past Sunday I stopped at a local deli for a sandwich and when I came out 2guys were looking at my bike 650 gt and asked me if that was really a BMW or did I just put on those bages on a different bike, all I did is laugh and drove away

Observations like, "Nice bike" have happened frequently. Had a guy follow me to a gas stop on the thruway and want to talk about the bike..couldn't I was on the clock to get somewhere. I live not far from Amish country and get a kick out of the Amish kids that wave from their perch in the back of their buggies. Like others I too have walked out of a store to find a guy looking at the bike (of course, I have done the same thing).

But my favorite was at our local Starbucks where the heavy cruisers line up. I parked with several bikes on either side and went in to get some coffee. While waiting in line I could see a number of the other riders having a "meeting" around my bike. A couple are regulars and good guys but I didn't really know what to expect from the guys I had not seen before. I mean, we aren't talking big bad ass grizzly old biker gang guys, more like doctors, lawyers, and retired dudes out for a spin on their Harleys.

With coffee in hand, I joined the conversation and when the talk turned to speed, one of the new guys laughingly suggested that his buddy with a brand spankin new stock Fat Bob race me. Of course, we don't race but I did get a kick out of JD, a regular who owns a custom bagger in addition to a couple other really nice bikes, who heard the comment and had only one thing to say to the guy with all the chrome..."You'll lose."

I left all vehicles for good when e lights turned green and realised a Goldwing closing up on me.Got stopped at another junction and he came up next to me and said, "What is that thing BMW did and how many cc is that?" Looks like an 1800cc beast got awed by e sheer acceleration of my stock GT [emoji16]

In a straight line I've no doubt that any half-competent rider can leave me in the dust. However, once the road starts getting twisty? Good-bye, pal. Not only does that 15" front wheel make direction changes "instantaneous" but the fact that I DON'T have to shift, and I'm nearly ALWAYS in the sweet spot of the power band (thanks to the magic of CVT) makes it pretty much a foregone conclusion. The spot-on suspension and rigid frame helps a lot too.

I always had to explain my other maxi-scooters, i.e. my Kymco 500 and the Burgman 650. Folks had a hard time understanding a large 500 cc plus scooter. On the other hand, people seem to get my C600 immediately - they are mostly curious as when BMW started making scooters.

When I show up at an ice house other riders come over and look at the machine. I've never heard a disparaging word.

I had someone the other day ask me when BMW started making "mopeds." I didn't correct him, but I've heard more than a few people refer to the C650GT (and my TMAX before it) as "mopeds." I guess not everyone understands the difference ("Moped" is a contraction of "Motor" and "Pedals", and there are NO pedals on a SCOOTER).

Does anyone make mopeds anymore? I can't remember the last time I'd seen one. They were BIG in the late 70s and early 80s though.

Nearly every other motorcycle rider I've come across has liked my c600. I was watching Bourne Legacy, the latest Jason Bourne movie and noticed that in the motorcycle chase scene at the end of the movie the bad guy is riding a TMax.

I've not had someone refer to BMW as a moped yet; though I've heard the term referring to a few of my smaller bikes. When someone says "moped" I figure immediately that they are clueless. I usually smile and say either "yes" or "no" depending upon my mood.

I think Tomos may be the last European moped manufacturer. I am sure there are Asian bikes out there.

You know, Jaime, your red color may really BE the best look! Andre and I went for a ride yesterday, me on the Wasp and him on his red c650. It really is a nice-looking beast in that color. And, the tail lamps look sort of like wings.

( And, his red went really well with my "reddish yellow cocktail" color...)

I feel like BMW made a marketing mistake calling the c600/c650 scooters. At least here in the US the term scooter is not viewed as a positive or implies small CC beach bum bike that will hit 35 mph down hill with a Tornado behind it. I don't even call mine scooter anymore when someone ask me about it as it is too hard to explain to someone who isn't familiar with maxi-scoots. I just refer to it as a "bike" now.

I still have my Nolan N43e Trilogy Helmet, the one I bought because it PERFECTLY matched the yellow of my "Bumblebee." I was going to replace it when I got the new scoot, but Nolan doesn't make one in red, and (as you noted) the color DOES go very well with the red anyway.
