Correct Tire Pressure Please

I run at 33f/37r with Metzler Feel Frees in the summer here in Ohio (probably a little cooler than Kuwait:)). I do not do 2up and weigh about 210lbs. That is what works for me. Jaime's wonderful post boils down to ..... start with the factory settings and if you really need to make adjustments, make them.

Note: There is a great MSF course on tires. If you can get anyone qualified to present it you will likely find it well worth your time.

Some of us (well, at least one of us) are nearly caring the payload of a person and half or more. I've been running 36/40, which seems fine for me.

Jamie has the correct procedure. Air to recommendation, ride 25 to 30 miles check pressure hot should be about 5PSI above cold press.

If not keep adding one pound at a time until you get the right pressure.

My experience with Metzler tires they cup if you don't keep them about two or three lbs. above recommended. I run 37 and 40.

Here is a technical question about the readout on the dashboard. If when I ride I have the tire pressure reading at 35psi and 38psi after the first 30 seconds and an hour later it still reads the same even though the tires are warmed up. When I stop the scooter a minute or two later start again the pressure still reads the same should it not read a higher pressure?

If it was meant to be 100% accurate I would say yes. But I'm under the impression our TPS is more of a guide than an absolute.

I agree. I have a really good tire pressure gauge and have checked cold/hot and keep my TPS on as I ride. Tire pressures are an important part of my regular safety check. I have found our TPS to be a good "directional" indicator.

i use the recomended 2.4 bar front 2.5 bar rear and works fine, no issues and i only have a 5mm chicken strip. this equates to 34 psi front 36psi rear. im still running standard pirelli's too.

I'm heading to my garage now to scuff up the remainder of the tire....:D

I find the tire pressure monitor to be a bit off. It reads a couple PSI low. I have two accurate gauges, one digital one a dial guage that agree with each other so I'm sure it's the monitor that reads a bit low. I carry the recommended pressure (from the placard under the seat) for two up since we often ride two up. I set the pressure with my compressor and adjust it to the recommended pressure with one of my gauges. After setting the pressure I make a short ride on the bike to check the monitor reading. Whatever it is, that's my reference for correct pressure on the monitor. I normally only see about a three PSI increase in normal riding. It's nice not to have to crawl on the floor to check the tires. This old geezer has a hard enough time getting up off the ground so anytime I can avoid it is a plus. I like it so much that I'm going to install tire pressure monitors on my K1100 when it needs new tires.

38 Front, 42 Rear here. Just had a service 2 days ago and thats what the tech recommended. The tech says the TPS only has a to be within 2 pounds + or -.
