Ditching the C600 Flexcase

I had the brainwave of removing the Flexcase from my C600 to create a little more room under the seat. Turns out it's not such a good idea as the designers have unhelpfully left some holes in the hatch that will let water flood in...

Looks like there's a little drain hole at forward end of the hatch. I wound theorise that the water ingress others have mentioned on the forum happens when it gets blocked up and a puddle gathers there.

I had also thought of modifying the Flexcase for a little more room, maybe even fabricating a fiberglass pan to put in there. I don't think it is a bad idea at all. Keep trying.

Sorry folks but I'm not quite getting the idea of more space needed or what you would gain. To get the clearance under the flexcase for the rear tire when in motion, you couldn't have much depth in a pan anyway. A buddy riding behind me told me there seemed to be quite a lot of movement in that rear suspension over some uneven roads recently. Maybe you would pick up a couple of inches at most in depth. Personally I have my helmet in there almost every time I am out so I use the flexcase a lot. I also have the top box on most of the time in case I get a honey-do list so don't have a big need for more space.

Murphy's law of storage space states that; stuff expands to fill the space available!!

I never put my helmet in there ( my rain gear goes there), and by eliminating the fabric you get a little more space. The GT has more space, which shows that there is room over the suspension for modification.

Yes, the aft half could be lowered. The suspension travel is 4.5" ( from owners manual). If you made a pan with the radius of the front half of the current pan, you would add some useful space and it would be hardly visible behind the bodywork.

That's what I was aiming at - without the Flexcase fabric all wadded up I'd get a little more room in there for stuff while underway.
I never use the thing anyway for security reasons - it advertises that there might be something in there worth stealing.

To avoid having the openings one could cut away the sides of the "tube" and reinstall just the base, but that would be a pretty drastic move.

Looking at your picture more closely, it appears that there is extra space between the flex case bottom and the body panel under it. I think it is just a matter of how you seal the holes and gaps, or fabricate a new pan. Looks like a good project for the winter ( if we get a hundred inches of snow again!).

Don't be talking that way now Snowdog. Summer only officially started a couple weeks ago - lol.
