In the normal course of wear and tear, when will the bike be torn down for its maintenance to put this in if I was being cheap and all that?

The maintenance calls for every 20,000km or 12,000 miles

At the same time the rollers get replaced and you should consider dr. Pulley sliders

Any real world performance number gains?

by the Dyno, there are no "gains" just better hook up. lighter rollers allows higher revs before hook up. then you have higher HP available at take off.
all the dyno charts I have show roller and clutch just get the power out better, but don't raise the hp you have from the engine.

From this supplier you can also get a drive belt from them for almost half what BMW will charge you. This supplier will eventually carry the Dr. Pulley sliders. As for the clutch the life expectancy is still yet undetermined as it is not mentioned on the maintenance schedules. It is something that is monitored at the time the rollers/sliders are replaced.
