Electronic cruise control.

I ordered a Rostra electronic cruise control for my K1100LT but am now thinking of installing it on my GT instead. The scooter is going to the dealer Wednesday for the timing chain tensioner recall so it won't be until next week before I can start looking to see if there's room for it in the fairing. My main reason for wanting to put the unit in the scooter is that it's more comfortable in cold weather than the K bike due to its heated seat. Also the woman who hangs around here (been hanging around these past 45 years) prefers to ride on the back of the scooter when we go to the next town for breakfast with our rider's group. So the scooter will get most of the winter and spring use of the two bikes. Anyway I'll start looking for the connections I'll need in the scooter and where I can find room for the unit. If it gets too complex I'll go ahead and put the control in the K bike since I do have a good write up with pictures on putting a Rostra in the K1100. If I do install it in the GT I'll take some pictures and write up the project.

When I was an auto mechanic, I never saw any warranty item refused because of a modification or poor maintenance. And, home installed accessories were way more common
back in the seventies. Manufacturers don't really want to get into legal actions over a warranted item.

No big deal on my bike since the warranty runs out in a month or so. Then it's just a matter of getting up the interest. It would be a lot easier if BMW had a decent service manual like Honda has. I need to look into the CANbus situation to make sure the unit won't cause false faults to show up on the system. When I had the dual horns on the bike, which I will also re-install next month, it caused a battery fault to show up. I'm not sure why since I used the same connection to operate a relay that actually operated the horn. That shouldn't have changed the indication to the computer. I guess it was the computer saw the unexpected current draw and decided it was a battery short.

It's going to be awhile, got a wife with a broken hip. I'm eager to get a look at the project but it might take cooler weather as well. 99F yesterday and not much cooler today.
