I just noticed something about the new Metzeler FeelFree tire we mounted this week; something I used to know but had forgotten. Along the outer edge of the tread of a brand new Metzeler tire there is a parade of "Elephants." There was an article about this in the BMW Motorcycle Owner's News if I recall correctly.
You can get an idea of how aggressively you ride by looking at these elephants. For example, all of the elephants on my front tire have been decapitated (only their bodies remain). Although the elephants on the rear tire are all "scuffed" they are still there because I haven't had much opportunity to do any "sporty" riding since I installed the tire. After a little over 200 miles today they're still easily visible.
There are no elephants left on the tires on my K1200LT, however. I'd been riding that one a LOT since the scooter had broken down over Labor Day weekend.
