So, I have a nice little trip starting 9-18. My beloved Oklahoma Sooners are playing at West Virginia on 9-20 and I have a group of former and current MP3 friends that meet in the NC mountains for a weekend of fellowship beginning 9-25.
So, I figured out a nice little trip:
9-18-to 9-20 - Brentwood (outside Nashville, my home) to Morgantown WV - Google miles are about 600. I'll probably deadhead to SW West Virginia and then take my time working my way north, exploring as many twisty roads as I can find. Saturday evening, I'll watch my Sooners whip the Mountaineers (I hope!).
9-21 to 9-24 - work my way south thru Shenandoah Valley and then the Blue Ridge Parkway. I basically will ride skyline drive and the Blue Ridge, with a number of the side roads thrown in. In my experience, the side roads are often better than the Blue Ridge. I will throw a plug for the best maps you could ever get if you're in this part of the country - America Rides Maps (google it). The guy has mapped all the best motorcycle roads around the appalachian mountains - from north GA all the way thru Virginia.
9-25 to 9-28 - ride with my buddies and enjoy riding and fellowship. Our base this year is the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground near Canton NC. If you are active on ModernVespa.com, there are a couple of threads about our gathering. We will ride 120-200 miles each day. We're expecting about 18 bikes this year. Most of the regulars have been MP3 owners. A few have moved on to other bikes (Honda 700 series, my BMW), but we'll still have 8-10 MP3's together. About 10 of this group are "regulars" and have attended our gatherings for years - we have one in the spring and another in the fall.
9-28 - return home (about 350 miles from BRMC).
