Fuel display & Lassen Volcanic National Park ride

So to celibrate hump day, I took a mental health day and cruised up to and through Lassen Volcanic National Park! I took off west from Susanville into the mountains. Leaving early in the morning and passing through the valleys, the temperature dropped down to 51F. So I thought, why not try the heated hand grips and seat warmer!! As Borat would say, "Very Nice, Great Sucess!" I stopped off in Chester to add a whopping 0.9 gallons of fuel. However, after fueling up, the digital gas display did not "reset" to indicate a full tank. So, onward to the park and through it. It's a very beautiful ride, and I was the only two wheeled conveyance during the entire ride! Highly recommended. So onto my next fuel stop at Old Station. I filled up with another 1 gallon, and then this time, the digital gas display did reset to full. Has this happened to anyone else? Did I not close the gas cap the first time tight enough? Anyway, beside that, the bike performed flawlessly!! I left home in the early am with temps in the low 50's and arrived back home via the back way with temps now in the mid-90's..Yikes!! I am so ready for Fall!

I find if I fuel with the key engaged, the fuel gage will not reset. If you notice it, turn key all the way off, wait a second and then re-engage the key and it will have reset.

I find I can get about half a gallon more in my bike if I fuel it on the center stand. Seem to be an bubble trapped when on the side stand.

Thanks exavid, I always fuel on the centerstand.. So I don't think that may have been a factor. I am going to focus on the key position, so that the onboard computer gets a proper reset.

Lassen is a truly beautiful park. I've been there several times myself. Sounds like you had a great ride and a great day. Congratulations, I'm jealous !!

One trip through Lassen on with my brother on our bikes we were a bit early in the season. The road across the top had just been opened and it was really cold. Foggy too, not much to look at. I was riding my Goldwing 1800 and wishing I'd been on something lighter due to the patches of ice on the road. We went back later in the season just to see what it really looked like.
