Givi Sidecase Mounting WITH BMW Rear Rack?

Has anyone mounted the GIVI PL5106 Monokey Side Case mounting kit for the BMW C650 GT on a GT that has the BMW Rear Rack installed?

I bought the rack with the scooter and was wondering if the Givi side case rack is compatible? I know the instruction for the side case rack claim that the Givi top case rack has to be used, but some here have mounted them without it.

Thanks,

I just posted a few close-up pictures (in the general discussion section) of the side case mounts, and the first picture shows how the upper cross bar attaches to the rear grab rails. There are two 90 deg brackets that bolt to the threaded holes (provided by BMW) that are under the rear rack. Therefore if the BMW rear rack will allow these 90 deg brackets to bolt under it then it should work.

Thanks for pointing me to the pictures.

It's going to be close - the BMW rack has a plastic cover which comes down right where the 90 degree brackets are (I assume to help dress up that edge.)

It's either going to just barely fit or just barely not fit...

Thanks

Could you trim off that part of the rack? If it is only cosmetic then it shouldn't hurt anything.

I just installed the genuine BMW topcase yesterday. Decided I wanted more room. Today, I was shopping for the Givi side cases, and saw that same info - that you need the Givi rear rack to install them. Wish I would have read that sooner, or I would have went with Givi all around.
I'm very interested in finding out if you were able to make it work or not with the BMW rack.

I know a guy in the local vespa club who returned his rack on account of the recall. He then went with the givi setup. I'd ask your dealer about a return.

I didn't buy it from a dealer. I bought it online back in January. It shipped and read "delivered" but I never received the package. After months of running around and police reports and threats to contest the charge on my card, it finally came yesterday. As much as I had to fight just to get the thing, I'd very much like to try to make it work with the BMW topbox.

As best as I can tell without actually doing it, it should be possible to mount the Givi Side case rack and the BMW rear rack together.

I looked at the instructions and the pictures and don't see a problem.

I have the 2013 C650 with the BMW authorized topcase accessory. A week ago, I ordered the Givi mounts for the side cases before I dropped the money on the side cases themselves. Last night, I installed the mounting hardware. It went fairly easily. I did have to notch out the plastic on the BMW luggage rack a bit, but that didn't require cutting through any supports or anything structural. I did it with a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade, but you could probably just as easily do it with any fine toothed short bladed hand saw blade . I recommend not using a reciprocating saw, as the blade would be too long and would probably end up cutting something you don't want to.
While I was at it, I noticed the BMW luggage rack had already lost a nut in my travels. I just installed it last week. No wonder they recalled it. Luckily, the bolt was still there. I went to the local hardware store and picked up nylon locking (nylock) nuts and I don't expect to have that problem again. I highly recommend making that change. You have to take that bolt out anyways to install the side case hardware. You should also pick up washers if you're going that route, so you don't crush the plastic. The factory nut had a built in washer.
I'll post pictures at some point if you'd like.

I finally received the GIVI sidecases and mounts yesterday. I mounted the Givi sidecases along with the BMW rear rack. I also had to notch the BMW rear rack and the plastic cover so that the Givi mount would fit. The piece removed was only 1/8" at the widest and about an inch long from the front edge of the rack and cover. There was an additional spacer that was included with the mount that I did not use.

After reading reviews of the Givi cases and how easy they are to scuff, I decided to see if a protectant would help keep the surface. I used Adams Super VRT but any vinyl, rubber, tire product should perform about the same. The difference that the protectant made in the appearance was surprising. See below for a before and after.
