Hey!! One of your headlights are burnt out!!

Although it never happened to me, several members of the Badweather Bikers BBS (Buell Enthusiast's forum) said they were pulled over by police for having a headlight burned out. They had to go to court with a document stating that was the way the bike was built. I had an XB12Ss Lightning Long that had that same issue, and the XB12R and XB9R Firebolts were also built the same way. Fortunately the 1125R had symmetrical lights, but when I traded that in on the 2009 Yamaha TMAX I was back to the "One light at a time" issue.

Even before that, BMW sold auxiliary lighting for my 1985 K100. It looked like two driving lights, but in reality one was a fog light and the other was a driving light. You could turn on the foglight with an auxiliary switch, but the driving light came on automatically when you switched on the highbeam. Switching on the highbeam would also douse the foglight. You could emulate a policeman's "wigwags" by turning on the foglight and then popping the high beam on and off. Amazing how cars got out of my way when I pulled that stunt...
