Interesting mod from Craigslist

This is from a local craigslist ad for a GT. It's a USB port installed on the underside of the steering assembly. I don't know what the other port is...

My guess, given what looks about the appropriate size to me, is that the right one is a coax panel port, for heated gear, something like this one on Amazon:

BTW, on both my former and current C 400 GTs, I, too, added external USB ports. On the C 400 scoots, the inside-the-right-cubby USB situation is all well and good for, say, charging a phone, and they even come with a rubber mat for that purpose. But if you want to power some external device, such as a GPS, camera, or that same phone in use outside the cubby, you wind up having to mush a cord between the bodywork and the cubby door (something I've done on a few Edelweiss tours, in fact).

In my case, I invariably record the entirety of even my goofing-off day trips with a GoPro, mounted thusly:

And I plug that power cord into a 3BR Powersports USB port (which is something that I've done with that company's USB ports on the last three or four bikes I've owned). Here it is on the dash of my C 400 GT:

I have a write-up of how I did that -- pics, captions, links -- in my 400 gallery, starting with this image: https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-17

Happily, on my other current ride, a Meteor 350, Royal Enfield saw fit to include an external USB port, with a spring-loaded door, underneath the handlebar, near the left grip. But on the other hand, there are no cubbies (or any other stock storage) on that bike, so where else would they put it? Still, it's a nice gesture, especially on such an otherwise no-frills bike.

Regarding heated gear (if I'm right about that small socket on that 650), I've always preferred to have the main power cord drape over my left thigh, for several reasons, but one of which is that it won't interfere in any way with steering. I've been doing this, going back many bikes now, since 2007:

That is, I've added a BMW/Powerlet/DIN/Hella socket under my left thigh, specifically for: 1) heated gear, and; 2) as smart-charger connection point (as shown above). For heated gear, since either 2007 or 2008, I've used a coiled cord with a Powerlet plug on one end and a heated-gear type of "coax" socket on the other:

In any case, it's nice to see that other folks are creative, such as the owner of that 650. And the handlebar cover is a nice cheap piece of bodywork to mess with.
