Oil Change Question

I thought I'd do an oil change on my 600 Sport and I ran into a slight snag. I drained the oil on what I thought was the oil drain plug (directly under the engine 8mm allen head screw) and oil did come out but it seemed like it was only a quart or so. I thought I'd pour fresh oil through filler hole to see if the oil would come out the drain hole and much to my surprise the new oil didn't come out. I did see 2 17mm hex bolts that looked like they could be either drain holes or pre filter holes.

So the $64 question is, where is the proper drain plug for this bike ??

Any ideas ? I've searched for a workshop manual on PDF or CD but nothing yet.

There are 2 drain plugs, you got the first one and the second one one is on the left side just behind the side stand (it is a black hex head maybe 17mm). There is also a filter inside this in it is a screen about 2 inches in length and a half inch in diameter.

Thanks justscootin, I see the one you're talking about but I also saw the one in front of the stand too. Looks like there may be a second filter behind that nut. I'm going to be near my dealer tomorrow after work so I'll double check with the service guys before I get in too deep.

Geez, that's a lot of work just to change the oil

UPDATE: There are 2 plastic filters on the side of the engine that are behind 17mm nuts (see photo above). You must remove them in addition to the oil drain plug directly below the engine to get all the oil out.

Now the oil's changed and life's good.
