Power Socket working?

I just tried my power socket for the first time and I don't think its working. I plugged in my phone charger and had no power. I tried it in my car and the plug works fine. Am I doing something wrong. Do I need an adapter or do i need to take it back to the shop to get it repaired?

Thanks. Just checked the fuses and all appeared good. I think it might be time to bring it in to the dealership.

As I understand a motorcycle power socket is different to a stock automotive cigarette lighter. I bought a specific unit at my motorrad dealer (powerlet to usb) for about $20. Worked fine.

Is that what I need? An adapter. Maybe that's why my phone charger won't work. I think that's a little odd though. Can anyone confirm?

Maybe this will help...(taken from a post on adventure rider forum)

"It's not a cigarrette lighter size. You can get a BMW to Cig lighter adapter from 'Powerlet'. They also sell male/female ends and about evrything else you need. Some BMW dealers carry 'Powerlet'. I added a Cig lighter to my bike, but it's not as good as the BMW connection, the lighter seems to slip out, the BMW connection never does. I think the BMW connection is military spec, it is the same thing on lots of military vehicles I have seen and yes TRACTORS! Even the BMW to cig lighter adapter is lack luster, the male wants to slip out of the cig lighter. If you can I would use BMW female and put BMW males on your items. Google 'powerlet'"

I have had no problem with the socket. It is a regular sized socket you will find in a car. I have only used the socket a couple of times as I installed a socket in a more convenient place on the top of the steering column outside. The socket in the glove box is good for charging your phone while riding and the phone is safe inside, no adapters needed. I think you guys are making this more complicated than necessary.

It's completely possible...I tend to go with recommendations I've gotten from the fellas at my dealers accessory shop and I've not been disappointed.

Fuse 6 (7.5A) is for sockets, I would check it with a multi meter for 12vdc. if no 12 volts then problem is between battery and fuse. if you have 12vdc on both sidew of the fuse then the wiring to your socket is the issue....

I made the mistake of plugging my Gerbings into the lighter and blew the fuse on my C650GT. The fuse is not on the right side panel where all the other fuses Are it is in the left side panel. And because mine is under warrantee as it should be. I will have the dealer fix it for nada

I used a regular Cigarette lighter to USB plug in my C650GT's glovebox and it works all the time. No magic... and as someone else noted, it's always "hot," even with the ignition off. Definitely a warranty issue. I wouldn't even play around with it; just bring it back to the dealer.

I stand corrected the fuse for the power outlet is a 7.5 located in #6, checked this morning and no good replaced socket works

That's odd, I use the same cigarette lighter adapter as in my car and Piaggio scooter to charge my phone and power my GPS.

I did take mine back to get it checked when I had my 600 mile service done. Turns out the factory never plugged the wire in the back of the plug. Works perfect now.
