remind me...when can I recharge my ce04

Thinking I read it is best to wait until the battery is down to 20% before recharging. Does it hurt if you do it sooner...say, in this example at 34%?
Also, does the charge rate impact battery health? I finally understood how to change from 8A to 30A on my CE04 though does using the higher A (30A rate) impact the health of the CE battery long term vs say 6A or 8A else using the home charger cord that came with the bike at home?

For optimum battery life, I keep my Tesla and my CE-04 charged, rarely more than 80% full charge, and never less than 20%. I've read from multiple sources that this strategy "stresses" the battery the least in normal use.

The closer you can charge to 21c battery temp.
The closer to 50% stare or charge for example charging between 30% and 70%,
The slower you can charge,
The better.
Bonus points for minimizing the amount you draw from the battery while riding.

But at the end of the day its about compromise of convenience, enjoyment and battery longevity.

Hum, the CE04 has a somewhat limited range. If doing a long round trip that the bike can do if charged to say 90 or 100% then I fill her up to 90 or 100%.

Regarding slow charging with a cord that came on the bike. I instead prefer 30A charging at the Level 2 charger. Although probably shooting myself in the foot with that thought. As I have a free charger at the bank that is only a ten-minute walk away I have taken it there for a full charge if down to 20% or below Even use their free charger at their other bank locations if on the road and fill I need more fuel.

Presently don't ride it on the highway roads much and prefer secondary roads since not as fast and somewhat enjoyable (though it is city riding so nothing to look at really). On a side note, Dynamic mode is a bit worrying in that I can get going too fast so quickly that I sort of stay away from that mode now and then.

When all is said and done will know down the road X number of years from now if I did much harm to the battery vs
slow and steady charging at home using a normal electrical outlet. Will need to see if the CE04 is like an iPhone and offers a battery health meter rating.

I should maybe mix it up and do at-home slow charging most of the time. Just hard to want to take a pass on free Level 2 30A charging since it is so close and gives me twenty minutes of walking exercise time to boot. Maybe I need to change my ways :)

Guess I can mix it up and do the 'charge me' aka it cost me $ to charge option at home if down to say 20 or 30ish%. That way if the mood strikes me and I want to go somewhere I don't have to worry if she has a full tank of gas.

Too bad, I infer, we cannot have it auto-stop after it charges to say 80%.

The owners manual says to keep the battery topped off at 100% all winter. Are BMW engineers wrong about their battery?

Likely risk mitigation, a battery stored full may not have the same longevity, but completely discharged battery is borked.

It would be interesting to chat to a BMW motorcycle engineer about their choices with the CE04 and a BMW automotive engineer who worked on the battery originally for the BMW IX. As the CE04 has the same cells as the IX, The IX website recommends to charge to 80% for everyday use and only to 100% for long trips.

Free charging sounds worth it to me :)

And an accessible battery health monitor would be cool. I know bmw has access to it when serving.

This was a good video Engineering Explained on how to best treat an ev battery.

CE 04 has a NMC 811 battery.

I charge my CE-04 every day - with 5,700 miles, I haven't seen degradation yet. BMW already reserves 4.5% of the CE-04 battery capacity as unfilable slack to maintain battery health - you only get to use 8.5 of the 8.9kWh capacity. There is so little range available that I'm not going to baby the charge amount unless the bike supports the idea natively - then I might change my default limit to 90 or 95% just for the hell of it.

30A vs 8A should have no meaningful impact on battery life. Every battery is different, but recent 3rd party studies on Teslas show no longevity difference between cars that regularly charge at 300A (Superchargers) vs home.

NIce find! Where'd you find out about the battery type?
“The battery cells in the CE04's air-cooled pack are the same ones used in the new iX and i4 EVs “

“The high-voltage NMC-811 batteries in the BMW i4 contain less than 10 percent cobalt content. In addition, the BMW Group procures the required cobalt for its battery cell production itself and then makes it available to the battery cell suppliers”
