Many years ago when I first started attending BMW motorcycle rallies, I met a gentleman on a GoldWing on a regular basis. I was talking to him and he told me that he'd NEVER own a BMW, but he LOVED attending BMW rallies, and that he found GoldWing rallies to be full of pretentious posers. Maybe you're on to something...

That networking event sounds a little boring if ya only had wine to drink, I bet the stout was after.....[emoji12].
there's a lot of beer songs but can't recall a song to sing about wine

And let's not forget willie and his whiskey river. He he

Well, maybe that's why I don't get asked back to networking events....[emoji41]

so dropped bike of on last Friday for july 1 apt, called on the 1st at 1200 to see if they had looked at it.
she said yes the oil leak is from the clutch area and the have ordered parts, and oh by the way bmw has a campaign on the timing chin tensioner. ok so were all good any idea of when parts will get here, I was told bike could be done before the weekend.
so called today to see if this could be the case and was told that some of the parts are her and still waiting on some
so I say ah so should plan on driving my car for the holiday weekend, ya looks like it, then she says well we still have to get it all back together so we can run it and listen for timing noise and then call bmw to see what they want to do with it
WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU NOT LISTEN FOR NOISE 1ST THEN LOOK FOR OIL LEAK AND ORDER ALL PARTS AT ONCE
FRICK THIS IS WHY MY CARS NEVER GO TO THE DEALER
I hope this doesn't go like I knew it would I don't want to have to start naming dealers around the net
again have been talking to dealer about oil since new and timing nose since 2k miles now have 2400
this is 12000 dollars of premium motor cycle that im guessing will be hung up for a month on problems they knew about
my buddy just bought an $800 1986 Yamaha that he gets to ride every day, what the FRICK
I have owned at least 15 bikes in 35 years and never I say never had to bring on to a shop for a repair
yup just had to step up and buy a bmw boy that was a smart move
at least ill have it for winter time here in Minnesota
sorry long and negative again

Good News: All Parts have arrived!!! except for the tensioner.

So I stopped off at my dealer to talk with the service writer about the recall and he says "Damn Christian are you some kind of psychic, everytime you come it I have something for you" All of the backordered parts have arrived and we will put your bike into the que to get all fixed up. So that accounts for the Seals, Clutch and so on.

I asked him about the recall, which I showed him a screenshot. His answer was "Come over here and look at the Campaigns" which I did and noticed that all that was open on my bike was the sidestand switch and the Panel bolts. The tensioner was not even mentioned. The answer I got was this " The issue with the RT was possibly life threatening,if you and your wife were going into a sweeper in the mountians and the rear suspension lets go...well you can imagine what would happen, so BMW issued a blanket and immediate Do Not Ride advisory on that machine. Your scooter's tensioner will not kill you, if it fails you would expect a total loss of power and you'd coast to a safe stop. Long story short, the Official Recall on our bikes will happen in waves based on the VIN number. As parts become available, BMW will activate the recall on a grouping of VINs and eventually everyone will get the new part.

My answer was, OK Awesome, I should expect my bike back by next weekend, but your still going to release to me a bike that could eat itself. His answer was "Yup" that's the way it goes, but please don't do that. I laughed

Here's to getting back on the road and off of my Missus' Vespa

It seems that BMW isn't to concerned with the tensioner on our bikes which makes me think that there were very few failures of this item, replacing and engine would cost them quite a bit of money and a loss of sales and respect that bmw is trying to build towards these bikes and all of there other bikes, social media can really bad mouth you very quickly

Exactly. BMW is not in business to lose money. If catastrophic engine failure was a likely result of the tensioner defect they would tell you to stop riding immediately.

as the c650 goes as I figured it would
I dropped it of on the27th of june still no word as to when it may be mine again
dealer acts as if this is norm and I should not be tore up that I can be without a 12000 scooter for a long period of time
emailed bmw cust serv and of coarse there is no response as of yet, and don't expect there will be
being without makes me look at other bikes that I could own
man for beating around town on I think a new Yamaha fz-07 would be fricken cool as hell
now I understand its a naked sport bike but less then 400 pounds 50lb trq and 75 hp sound way cool to me
cool enough to be fun but not to fast to get in trouble and 6500 dollars I could have got a his and hers for what I paid bor the c650
working on the wife as we speak just took her to look at it she thought it was cool and she could ride it also
not that I want to spend more money but who knows when the hell the beemer will be ready to ride
take a look its pretty cool and sounds just like the beemer

Yamaha fz-07. Yup a cool looking bike, but then I like a ton of bikes. From the classics like the Heritage Softail and the Indian Chief Vintage* to the super classy BMW k1600 and my favorite sport touring bike the FJR1300. Have ridden only a couple of those, but they look spectacular...at least to my eye.

*A guy I work with stopped by my office yesterday with a new fully decked out Indian Chief Vintage; red with the tan leather. Absolutely beautiful. I really hope Indian (Polaris) can make it work this time.

Crap happens. I can see plenty of irritation generation caused by the delays getting a bike repaired under warranty. So far mine's been okay but I do have a back up machine just in case. The old k1100LT is ready to take up the slack if needed. Now you can bet that if I didn't have another bike then I'd have problems with the GT.
