Slow clock

Hello guys,

I was wondering if any of you have experienced the clock on either the CGT or the CSp being slow? I've had my instrument panel replaced once, and have only recently noticed that the clock is slow by a few minutes after 6 months.

I was told from the guys at the local club that some of them have had their clocks freeze and not work, and that would probably be because they installed DVRs and LED Panel Emblems and connected them to the 12V port / canbus.

I on the other hand, have a DVR and the LED Panel Emblems connected to the ignition. I haven't had the clocks freeze at all, but am wondering if the additional power draw could be the reason for the clocks slowing?

I believe my clock gets off after 6 months as well cause I know I changed it a couple times related to daylight savings time and noticed the minutes were no longer synced to "apple iphone time" which we all know is the real universal time. I seem to recall it was slow by a couple minutes. No doubt BMW was able to source a slightly cheaper crystal that was "mostly correct". :)

Hey TwoPort,

thanks for sharing. It puts my mind at ease now, knowing that it's a crystal thing rather than the bike actually being affected by power loads.

Scared me a bit as I was planning to install the Acerbis Vision Handguards on my CSp, and didn't want the instrument panel to go whacky because of additional power draw.

A couple of minutes in six months isn't bad for a quartz piezo controlled clock. So set it two minutes fast and it will never be more than two minutes off per year. This clock isn't a certified chronometer.

Yeh, mine is a few minutes slow after only 3 months or so. They cheaped out on the oscillator. It's probably a 49 cent part, compared to something that might cost marginally more but would provide another level accuracy over time.
