Starting issue

edbremer;2010 This is my first time to have this happen and said:
I'm thinking you might have the same problem I have. After my computer update, about a week later the windshield motor quit working. I had the bike in three times to change out the motor and it did not fix the problem. Finally, the dealership called BMW and they said to re-program the computer. Another dead end. I lost almost a weeks worth of vacation and now, only option is to keep it for several days and tear down the front end and check wiring. Unfortunately, this is my only mode of transportation to and from work. Kinda why I bought a BMW, but no help from BMW or dealership on a loaner. It's irritating to say the least. Really, really expected more.

My dealer was able to recreate the "Hard Starting" issue. He believes it is a faulty cam sensor. More when I hear back from them.

Well, it wasn't the cam sensor after all. I get the feeling they have no idea why it occasionally takes FOREVER to crank over despite having a fully charged battery. Their latest hypothesis is that it is caused by "carbon build-up in the valves." I find that just a little hard to believe in an engine with just over 6,000 miles on it. Not only that, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to lug these things, as the CVT spins the engine right up and you're almost never running in low rpms. Hell, my K1200LT engine has 178,000 miles on it and I never have this problem.

Guess this one is still a mystery... Hope we get some better diagnostics soon.

...and I keep WAITING for all these issues to be resolved/rectified by BMW for my "Next Bike", but they just seem to be CLUELESS. Sort of like banging the top of an old black-and-white TV and suddenly the picture improves.

Why? No reason, that's just how it is. How could I justify trading in my current ride, upon which everything works FLAWLESSLY every time, for essentially a two-wheeled toss of the coin??? Will it run? Will I be stranded? Will I be the first to experience the NEXT system/mechanical failure? Will I enjoy it or regret the purchase?

Some owners have had no problems, others had to have either their bikes REPLACED or all their MONEY back because it just couldn't be fixed...

So, I wait. For some acknowledgement/update/redesign from BMW that addresses endemic shortcomings. Not holding my breath...

How freakin' old are you?? :D Love the analogy. Seriously though, those that have no problems are no doubt in the vast majority. But then again, I would have no way of knowing that for sure. My GT is only 3 months old with less than 4k miles, so while perhaps not representative of the average and still relatively new, I can say I have never had any problems of any sort.......except maybe staying out too long and going too far too fast.

Ha, love it. True enough about the relative age. Something about the air out there. I have two of my girls living in LA and when out there I feel the profound need to use the word "Dude" in nearly every other sentence.
