Starting Problem when bike is Hot

My 650 starts easily when the engine is cold but every so often it is very hard starting after I get off the bike and run into a store and come back in 5 or 10 minutes. I can shut off the bike and it will start right back up no problem but if I'm off of it for a longer time ( 5 or 10 minutes) it's hard to start. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?? Thanks!

I would try some addictive to yor fuel I have had that happen to me on a very hot day of riding and stopping the bike for awhile and the bike got baked in the sun for awhile before I got back on it. I am not a Startron salesman but it is really good stuff and will probably help you out with your problem.

When was the last time you had the scooter in for service? Might be just a software-flash away from being fixed.

I have had this happen 3 or 4 times. It happens when I take a short ride, a mile or 2, and going into a store for few minutes. When I get back on, it doesn't want to start. I suspect the engine is fooled into thinking it is warmed up, and does not increase the fuel/air mix as it would if it were cold.

The fix for me is to give it a little throttle when cranking. Starts right up. And remember, a little throttle with a firm hand on the rear brake!

Does it turn over just as fast, or does it sound like a low battery. If so you might need to clean your battery terminals. If it still turns over good, then I agree you might be fooling the FI into a wrong mixture.

Thanks everyone. It does crank just as fast as any other time, the battery is fairly new as I had to replace the original that was bad. The bike has 4300 miles on it, has not been in for any service other than 600 mile first service, then a water pump replacement at 2100 miles and a new battery shortly thereafter. I changed the oil myself at 3600 miles. Anyway, I may try some Startron as suggested and also try to give it a little throttle when starting. It doesn't do this all the time, sometimes it starts right up after I come out from a store etc. Other times, I don't think it wants to start so go figure, it is not consistent!!
