Sticky backseat……

Hi, I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem. The back of my seat, covered with grey vinyl, on the other side of the hump, where the passenger should sit, has gotten very tacky.

Keep in mind my scoot doesn’t have a garage to sit in and doesn’t always get it’s cover put on it when it is parked, so it may be exposed to more UV light and weather than your own bikes.

One day I took my bicycle out to the park for a ride and noticed nothing wrong. When I got back home I noticed that my bicycle rear rack was sticky where it was resting on my seat. I went to my scooter to investigate the spot where my bicycle was resting on my scooter and noticed that all of the grey vinyl on the seat was very sticky.

I asked the BMW dealer that I purchased this scooter from if they had heard anything about this issue. Their response was….nope, that bike is so new and not many have been ridden for enough time to evaluate if it is indeed a common issue. They said that I could make an appointment for service and they would write it up and send the information to BMW for their evaluation. I declined, it wasn’t that important to me. (I was considering recovering the seat anyway, but not for this reason, just to give it some personal flair.)

I fixed the sticky vinyl issue with some WD40 and washed that off with dish detergent. That grey vinyl is not sticky right now, it is however slick, not because of the WD40 that is all washed off.

I will update this post if there are any changes.
