Just called my dealer they checked my vin on my 2013 C650GT and nothing on the recall, wait and see I guess.

Also when the tensioner gets replaced, what about the chain would it have not stretched due to the chain being thrown around.

When a C600/650 comes into a dealer in Italy with a noisy chain tensioner, they are biting the bullet and replacing the tensioner, guides, chain and cam gears. And that's without an official Italian recall. BMW USA needs to Step it Up...

I'm curious and would like to take a poll from all who see this post to find out who so far have noticed problems with the timing belt and if so what was your odometer reading at the time.

No problems, but a noticeable intermittent noise which I brought up to the techs attention at the 6k service. They confirmed and it's been at the dealer since April 15th.

Thanks for the replys guys.....keep it coming. The more input on this timing belt issue the better we can help and inform our fellow forum members. I think this is an awesome UMV, but if BMW needs to make improvements they need to hear it from us.

So far so good with my '13 GT, no odd sounds at 1350 miles. At least I have a well tested '94 K1100LT to fall back on if needed. So far with 72,000 miles it hasn't failed in any way.

Yea, I was going to say... If it had a belt then we'd not be at the mercy of a hydraulic tensioner...but then that would open up a new maintenance cycle of belt replacement. I'll always say keep it old school with a timing chain and spring/nylon tensioner. Bombproof

Same here in Victoria but the dealer is currently checking with BMW about the noise on my scooter. I find it rather puzzling that Transport Canada has announced a recall on their website but no one at BMW seems to be aware of it...

I occasionally am accompanied by an invisible seal. It's a sneaky little thing that will bark a little just before it falls off at 10 mph.

My scoot was in last week for, among other things, a bad drive bearing and drive chain tensioner. I asked about the timing chain tensioner and he looked (I was peering over his shoulder) and he said there were no recalls, campaigns, or advisories for the timing chain tensioner. Has anyone else in the US had theirs looked at? I'm guessing the recall is being issued geography by geography and hasn't made it to the US yet.

Just collected my bike from e 10,000km service and e staff told me that my battery and cam-chain tensioner has been replaced. He told me there was a recall for these 2 items. He also added that e bike felt new now.For me,I just noticed that it runs a lot quieter now. Overall, i'm happier!
