Timing Chain Tensioner Recall

Hi guys! I've just done my 600 miles service with the chain tensioner replaced 2 weeks before. So far, I do notice differences in engine revving, better acceleration and big smile all the way. But that only covers 50km ride. Will keep you updated on how does this scooter do for long distance ride next week. Cheers!

Good idea, Coy. I'll do the same after I get mine replaced next week. Although, mine will likely be more of a state of mind in as much as I have had no problems with my 650GT (kinda like you know how your car rides so much better after it is washed).

Still waiting for my dealer to get the parts for the recall. He expects them fairly soon. It will be good not to have that to be concerned with

Guess what came in the mail today? The second letter saying the part is now available! Almost a week after I had it installed, too...

Well, we could have R1200RT issues....

My C650GT runs perfectly. Dropped it off today for the recall. The tech said they had done only one other (another bike with no problems). He is thinking about adding a C600 (dammit) to his stable as he does not feel he needs the extra trunk space a GT offers and is not a big guy. I am hesitant to tell you his favorite C600 color because all those people with black ones will say, "Oh yeah, Oh yeah".

Don't feel bad, Steve... SOMEONE has to buy the C600 Sports in this country!

There is a rumor flying around the Google+ BMW Scooter group that BMW may not even bring that model into the US next year.

Got my letter about parts last week, called Falcone in Indy they said order parts on individual basis. Ordered parts, will call when parts in house. Next question, will average about 5 working days for part.

By the way, Honda just recalled the GL1800 GoldWing for the SECOND TIME for the same issue (dragging rear brake). About 126,000 bikes are affected. I don't feel so bad now.

My situation is strange as I had the dealer check their database for open recalls for my C650GT. My production date was 09/2012 which puts it into the recall. I called BMW and they didn't have the scoot listed to me so I was able to update their info. My scooter was bought used from a company that the dealer owned for rentals. My title shows that the scooter was purchased from the dealer and not the rental company however. I just assumed that the dealer would automatically notify BMW of the ownership change.

Unfortunately BMW did say that the scooter was subject to the recall. They were not sure whether I would get the second letter. I have called a closer dealer and they were to call me when the parts come in. I won't hold my breath.

This site is great for info so when I see that others are actually getting the fix I will go to the dealer and make the barking seal noise demanding attention.

I just got the official letter from BMW that they now have parts for the recall and I can make an appointment to have the tensioner installed.

I dropped my GT off at my dealer on Tuesday without an appt (they did call me the week before and said they could get parts for the recall). They called me today (Thursday) and said it is ready, and they are closed Wednesdays. Looks like it will be pizza for the service dept tomorrow.:)

Is the timing chain immersed in engine oil? I need to change my oil but won't if the dealer will end up doing it (under warranty) when they replace the tensioner.

Hi all,
Im new to the site all the way from south Africa. I have just managed to get my bike back from the dealer after waiting for 8 weeks for parts. The problem we had was that BMW notified their customers before the dealer even new about it .what a poor show from BMW I'm sorry to say. Unfortunately I love my bike so hopefully now after the recall repair I might in time soften up to BMW again ? With a bike that only has 2000 klm on the clock I hope I won't experience any more problems going forward.

Welcome aboard. I have yet to read about anybody that does not love their Beemer...even with the growing pain issues some have had to experience.

Let us know how its going and report any cool adventures from South Africa.

Welcome aboard. I have been a frequent visitor to your country for many years on hunting safaris in RSA as well as Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia and I absolutely love the place and the people. I even have a stock of peri peri in my pantry.
