Winter Storage

Well for me in my geographical location, I may have one more month of safe, comfortable riding left....:(

So besides keeping the bike covered in the garage with some Stabil added to the gas and using the battery tender now and then, are there any other suggestions for winter ❄️ storage?

TIA

If you have a true battery tender (Battery Tender, Optimate and other brands) you should be able to keep battery plugged in all the time and not need to unplug. The battery tender will only top off the battery with a slow charge when needed. A battery charger is a different story, it can cook a battery if left charging.

Ride it any chance you get if the roads are clear and the temperatures get above freezing. I managed to get out every month over winter at least a time or two even in Chicago. Make sure to keep tires inflated, pressure drops about 1psi for every 10 degrees of temperature change.

I've kept mine on the battery tender whenever its in the garage and the original 2013 battery just tested as all good from the Dealer. Partly I think its luck but I'm sure the Tender made the luck.

Based on the science behind a battery - lead acid, AGM, it is best to keep the battery fully charged and fastest way to ruin a battery is to constantly discharge them. I plug mine in anytime I don’t think I will use it the next day or two. It’s critical that you use the proper battery tender and not just a charger.

Ok, so for those that have been on the forum for awhile you've seen this picture before, but it's that time of year for me to post again. The story is that my wife took the picture a few years ago as I was shoveling a small path to get out of the driveway.

Riding all year round takes some creativity in Northeast Ohio:rolleyes:. For me, storage is not something I do. That said, battery tenders, tire pressure checks, and an awareness of black ice and cold tires is certainly part of the picture this time of year.

Then again, maybe I will be off the bikes for a little while as I am having a hip replacement Nov 1st...probably miss at least a day or two;).
