Wonder what your Motor Costs???

This is the price at the Dealer...over $7,000.00 for a Motor..

When the dealer replaced my motor because of an oil leak on a casting, the cost was 7,212.16 for engine, cvt filter, cvt housing, screws, gasket, engine oil and final drive oil. Add in the labor and the total was 8,232.49. All covered under warranty.

I remember many years ago (decades) some magazine did a study to see how much it would cost if you bought ALL the parts for ANY motorcycle and decided to build it yourself. Bill Gates could probably afford to buy a bike that way. The rest of us are better off buying the bike fully assembled at the factory.

Im not surprised. I know a guy who bought a K1600GLT and he tipped it over on an incline at about 3 mph. The resulting accident put a nick in the engine casing on that 6 cyl motor. They totaled the whole bike on account of that. Motorrad stated that they could not guarantee the integrity of the unit and replaced his bike.

But to be fair... I had spent somewhere over 5K on my Lambretta motor and it does not even run yet. And Im only expecting 30ish hp outta it. So maybe 7K for a 60hp lump ain't so bad.

That's precisely the major reason I haven't replaced my 1999 K1200LT with the K1600GTL. I know if I drop my bike, I will do EXACTLY $35 worth of damage. That's how much it costs to replace the plastic covers on the tip-over protection bars on the K1200LT (DAMHIK). Looking at the K1600GTL, all I see are dollar bills flying out of my wallet if it should ever fall off its sidestand. Damn shame the ONLY bikes BMW makes that can't roll off their sidestands are our scooters...
