Well my timing chain tensioner gave out before Christmas

The scoot came to a standstill out of the blue, and it wouldn't restart

Trailered it home, got to the plugs.......... I have no compression!

26k miles on the 3rd tensioner

My question, has any one done, or heard of anyone buying BMW i3 l01 2017 REX 0.6L Range Extender Petrol Engine from the car and swapping it over?

I can get my hands on a very low milage engine for the car, but wondered about mounts etc etc

The two-cylinder inline engine of the C 650 GT with a displacement of 647 cc. Its rated power output is 60 hp at 7,500 rpm, and its maximum torque of 49 ft/lb is available at 6,000 rpm.

Found this for the car engine? someone had asked if he could make the car go faster when it ran out of battery!

It’s the same engine like in BMW C650 GT maxi-scooter, but de-tuned to only 34hp/4300rpm because of emissions. Regular engine produces 60hp/7500rpm which is almost double. Maybe some manual RPM control would work?

Those engines are like "Hen's Teeth" over here, and if you do find one, there extremely expensive, like 2k in £''s

I think I'll tear it apart, and see how bad it actually is

It's not making a lot of noise, in fact none at all, just a no start and no compression?

If the timing chain skipped but the engine is turning over smoothly, just not starting, then I suppose there could be the off-chance your valves did not get damaged, but only the timing of the engine is out. I don't know enough about these engines to really know what to do next but my guess is it can't hurt to see whether you can get the whole thing back into proper time. I have a BMW special tool I used to install my new tensioner which locks the timing in place while the tensioners are swapped and I vaguely recall some instructions on how to install that tool by moving the engine to TDC (Top Dead Center) or something like that. The DVD shop manual must contain instructions on how to check/adjust engine timing and fingers crossed there is no internal damage and you can get things back to spec. 30-50% chance?

It sounds like you had the exact same thing that happened to me a couple years ago. The bike was running and just stopped at a crossing. It would spin but not start. The dealer tore it apart and found the old spring type tensioner gave way and allowed the chain to skip. You can find in these forums somewhere what the TDC mark is for the pistons. What I ended up doing, since I thought what could it hurt with the motor being ruined, was loosening the bolts that held the cams in place to move the cams separately. Assuming the cams did not move 180 degrees, I aligned the marks in the photo to parallel with the valve cover plane. The forward cams was in alignment, so I loosened the back and started to adjust. A couple tries and it was back to parallel. Spin the crank over a couple times with a wrench to listen for interference with the valves. Afterwards, I replaced the tensioner with the oil pressure tensioner upgrade and crossed my fingers. I have over 15,000 miles since then with no issues whatsoever. Good luck.

1.5hrs work today and the beast burst back into life 💥

Indeed the chain had jumped

No internal damage whatsoever (phew)

New tensioner required 🤦‍♂️ I don’t know if I can be bothered going down the oil fed route 🤔

But I can’t thank you enough for your input 🥰

We managed to pop the chain off the cam, set timing and slide it back over

Started first time 😎
