Clickety clack chain tensioner snaped

At 10,100 miles my 650gs let me down. The chain tensioner failed and the chain went all over the place. I call BMW roadside assistance and had the scooter sent to the dealer. The dealer needs to get authorization from mother BMW to open the engine and see what damage the chain may have done. It may take up to three weeks or more to fix. It all started when i was hearing a clickety clack when I came to a idle, not to loud but noisy, then it got real loud then bam so I turned the key off and called the tow truck. Well now I have some time to ride my new BMW GS1200 water cooled bike, the scooter was stealing the show when it came to GS.

The thing that needs replacement every 12,500 miles is a BELT, not a chain. The enclosed chain (final drive) doesn't seem to have a replacement interval that I can see. Doubt it's a "lifetime" piece though (like a driveshaft). I'm still learning about these things myself though.
 
I went on a ride yesterday with my riding club and one of the riders wife had a new C600 and the fuel pump went out at 10000 miles. There is no stock of that part in the USA. I hope we did not buy $11k lemons.

It's only a "lemon" if everybody's fuel pump fails. New bikes often have some mechanical issues. All bikes eventually have them too. The dreaded stall seems to have been cured. Let's see how a large number of the bikes perform before panic sets in. Vespa had to do a recall on fuel pumps for their 300 series - which has turned into a very good seller and a reliable machine.

I guess the SOMEONE would be me. I've cruised through the manual extensively, and even though it shows how to do EVERYTHING, it just doesn't say WHEN...
 
Geez, for every other model of BMW I've ever owned, they've always been so damned EXPLICIT as to when everything is to be serviced and/or replaced. I wonder what's up with the new "philosophy??"

I have had problems starting my scooter in the morning twice in the past month, it was as if no fuel was delivered to the cylinders. It took a lot of continuous cranking to get it going. I rode the day before no problem and the rest of the day I had no problem. I called the dealer and asked if this could be diagnosed with the computer and said it may be the fuel pump. His response was that if I could duplicate the issue for them they could figure it out or I may have to wait for a complete failure.

I have been known to cover ground quickly.

Well not only did the chain jump ship but it took 2 valves with it and bent them, just enough so the piston taps them a little.

Not yet, dealer said waiting for the parts needed to finish the job. It's coming on 5 weeks and yes, I have another bike but damm I miss my scooter. Any longer will be unacceptable for me.
 
It seems they are about as fast as all the dealers I have ever done business with they all must take a course in how slow can we go before we piss off the customer, the Can-Am dealer I was dealing with had a problem with getting parts for the spyder I had it got to the point that he was at a dealers meeting at the factory and talked the rep. into snagging the parts off the production line to make the repair to my bike,other wise it would have been more than a month more to wait and I had already waited 4 weeks.
 
Well, after talking to one of the mechanics he said one of the pistons is cracked and are now negotiating for a new motor. Looks like another three weeks.
