I put as much 3M SOLAS hi-viz tape as possible on my helmet. I routinely perch the helmet on my handlebars (see photo) when parked.
I've often noticed that the helmet is highly noticeable from a block or more distance. Some riders' sense of style will keep them from doing this, but it's cheap and it works.
