Cruise control please

Is there any cruise control available for the BMW scooter? Something to adapt to it or made for another bike that will work. Such as BMW other bikes cruise system. Any rumors of a aftermarket or future system. I already have a throttle lock so don't go there! I've had the scoot for 3 weeks 1100 miles and love it except for the cruise dilemma. :mad:
 
Yes there is, someone else here was talking about it. He also pointed out that installing it WILL void your warranty so maybe you might want to think about waiting until your warranty has expired before going any further...
 
Ok I wont talk about throttle locks - not. I have a Kaoko that I leave on all the time. It is not hard to get used to. Twist on and twist off. It is not perfect up hills but a lot cheaper than a true cruise.

It works better than the lever locks. It adds friction to the throttle and can be adjusted for tension.
 
I use Cramp busters on all our bikes there not cruise control but they certainly make a big differance in the ride I also use one on the left side as a hand rest and you can adjust them while riding.

I disagree, I have a "Go Cruise" and have used friction locks. I was always annoyed by my friction lock, as you had to reset it everytime you changed throttle positions. The "Go Cruise" allowes me to increase the throttle when going up hills and then go back to the original position when back on the level. My "Go Cruise" also has a knob to increase friction.

Are you allowed to disagree with me? Hmm I guess so. lol I haven't used the lock you suggest. The Kaoko allows one to set tension and add throttle up hills and then reduce throttle as needed. After that maneuver the Kaoko keeps the throttle where it was. It removes the spring throttle closure so the throttle stays wherever it is positioned.

However I do defer to your SENIOR status and experience.
 
I've found the Kaoko's adjustments to be "fine" enough so that I can set the amount of friction I want and then use the throttle as normal. If it is in the "don't change when I let go" position I can still manually move the grip easily up or down and it just stays in that position. Also - because of the thread orientation when I want to decelerate and reduce the friction I just grab the Kaoko and grip at the same time and I'm "back to no friction". I'm pretty used to it now so it seems sort of second nature.
 
Pretty much the same thing with Throttlemeister. Set it to the friction level you want and as long as you leave it alone, it doesn't change... you're free to twist the throttle as much as you want without tightening or loosening the Throttlemeister. It's not a true "Cruise Control" (which is what the OP was asking about) but it does let you rest your right hand from time to time.
 
My throttle lock disclaimer seems to have been moot. I have a kaoko too, just really want real cruise. BMW, if your out there , please make real cruise. BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME.

What I found annoying was, a lot of times when you had to add throttle you had to play with the throttle more then I wanted to get it back to the same position.

Actually, I DID answer your question. Then everyone else started talking about the friction type throttle locks (and "Throttle Lock" is a misnomer... they don't lock your throttle, they just hold it in position through friction, but you are still free to roll the throttle on or off so it isn't really locked).
 
I have a Rostra electronic cruise control unit sitting in my garage that I plan on installing in my GT. I have almost another year to wait until the warranty runs out before I plan to put it on. It shouldn't be particularly difficult to install the main thing is finding the necessary inputs to the cruise control. With ABS equipped bikes one can usually tap one of the wheel speed sensors for the speed input. You can't use an input directly from the engine because of the variable belt drive. That works with a manual transmission bike but not with a CVT that constantly varies the gear ratio. I put an electronic cruise on an old Goldwing a few years ago and it worked nicely. I'm hoping I can repeat it with my GT. The full electronic units are easier and more compact to use than those that operate with a vacuum source.

Apparently it's nation wide. Meford, Oregon seem to be complying. I had a Throttle Meister on my K1100 which works much the same way but the cogged Kaoko is easier to operate with gloves on compared to the polished aluminum on the Throttle Meister.

I didn't think of the warranty when I ordered my Rostra cruise control. I never had a bike before that had a warranty. Kind of a good/bad thing. I have another year to run on my 2013 GT's warranty which is great anything goes wrong it doesn't cost me. Bad side is the cruise will have to wait.
