Got my GPS unit installed on a RAM mount atop the brake fluid reservoir. Unit is hard wired to the battery. Also, note yellow o-ring on throttle. Poor man's cruise control!
You can rewire the GPS to the plug under the center cover. When you do this it will be powered on with the ignition. You can buy the plug or cut the existing plug off. The brown wire is the ground.

On mine I cut the connector off the standard GPS wiring harness and it was operating and switched. Works perfectly and no risk of running the battery down if I forgot to switch off my GPS. Just off the top of my head I can't recall which wire was live but you can easily test for that. As Justscootin said the brown is ground wire.
