GPS Mounts

Anyone have any mounts for smart phones? Or any ideas/suggestions? I use my smartphone as my GPS. If I could find a way to safely mount it on my handlebars, that would be great. Doubly great if it could be charged.

I would guess this is the most common. I have one and use it in my car; too afraid to use it on the bike. Many, many positive stories about how great it is on MC's. Occasional story about how the phone fell out. I don't want to be the occasional story.

Hi everyone. I`ve been using the RAM PSA Adhesive Mount with Universal X-Grip now for two years here in Finland. Never had any problems. Brake/Clutch Reservoir Cover Base is also for GPS, X-grip, GoPro, cup holder etc. They both are 1" ball. Works just fine to me!

I am an X-grip guy and have had no problems. Have also used it on some pretty rough roads. I am pretty careful about making sure I position the phone properly.

Second the motion. I had that setup on my Burgman 650 and am duplicating it for my C650GT. It positioned my iPhone (using Maps, of course) at just about the right height for easy-to-see yet obtrusive to my direct field of vision.

Hi all is there any update on the GPS/Smartphone mount? Im just getting organised for some touring - I have a habit of taking my own version of short cuts, or 'Oh that looks interesting I wonder what is down that road' which gets me lost Anyway thought this (see link above) might help getting out of some awkward situations.

Thoughts? (other than stay on the highlighted route)

Ha....Perfect. But, yeah, I use an X-grip and my smart phones (I have two: Verizon and Sprint.....rarely need to use anything other than my personal Sprint phone) in an all-weather shock resistant case. When going through areas with poor reception I rely on paper maps. Although most long distance guys/gals probably use a Garmin or Tom-Tom or something similar. In my part of the country, cell is nearly always pretty good.

Even with the included tether? Seems like this has worked fine for some people while others have had their phone dropped. I am not ready to buy a new phone yet so maybe I'll try the phone in my pocket and Bluetooth approach first.

Good catch - no I did not have the tether. A "bump" made it slide out the bottom and if the tether would stop that it will do the trick.

I have the BMW Mount for my GPS, but for every day riding I usually just use my mobile phone, for longer trips I used the GPS.

I was using the RAM X-mount with my cell phone and I was concerned about it falling out and I did get the tether which seemed prevent the likelihood of it falling out. My issue with the X-mount was that the mount, especially with the tether would sometimes press on the volume buttons (iphone) especially if not mounted just right or if it shifted around due to the tether, which is like a rubber band of sorts.

I went to the RAM Universal Spring Loaded Cell Phone Mount. It is adjustable and due to a top and bottom spring clamp and adjustable side holders, it feels more solid and more importantly, does not hit any of the buttons.

Depends on the size of your phone and whether or not you are doing jumps with your bike. I have a Samsung Galaxy 6 in a shockproof/waterproof case and have never had a problem through all sorts of craziness including a spin out, a drop, and even an unintentional jump (Surprise!! Yikes!!). My smaller company phone probably wouldn't have hung in there as well as the Galaxy.

There have been times when I have wished it had been lost, though. Hmmmm, maybe I should try my company phone in it.

I did get the Ram Mount attached for my iPhone. Mounted it to the brake reservoir. Couldn't be easier. The X-Grip mount came with the Texel WebGrip tether. Seemed very secure in there.

One question, is there an inexpensive way to get the sound in my helmet via blue tooth? Tried to use my regular blue tooth headphones. Very hard to get a full face helmet on with them in my ears before putting the helmet on. And about impossible to put them on after the helmet is on. Managed to keep 1 in which worked OK though it got pretty uncomfortable with the helmet pressing on it. Not ready for a new helmet and not looking for rider-to-rider communications.

I would recommend a SENA unit even though you may not need rider to rider Comm. With SENA you can listen to music, get voice navigation from your phone or GPS and answer your phone. No cords and designed to work with many different type helmets. Get a lower model like a 10S or even pick up the older SMH10. 98% of the time I use my SENA for music, phone and navigation so you really don't need it for rider to rider comm. It does make for easier riding and allows talk between riders when riding with others who have a SENA or compatible device but after using one just for the non rider to rider comm I don't think I would ever not have one in my helmet.
