Hard Bags For The GT

These are GIVI brand mounts for the BMW C 650 GT (they won't fit the 600 Sport), and the photos are with the GIVI 21 Liter side bags, and one of GIVI's largest rear boxes.

The rear box is the 47 L size which in my opinion is too big (and therefore ugly) for everyday use. However I occasionally need to carry a lot of stuff so I will only use it when I need it (these GIVI boxes can be installed or removed in seconds).

The scooter is now a total of 8" wider with the 21 L side cases (4" each side).

OBTW, GIVI says that you must also buy their rear rack (box mount) in order to install the side racks, but that isn't totally true. It is true they are made to work together but the side mounts could just as easily be installed without buying the rear rack.

Thanks SteveADV but I now realize that I should have removed the soft seat bag before taking the pictures. Yes anyone can see that it has nothing to do with the hard bags but it still is a visual distraction. Oh well.

Verrrrry interesting... though I can't imagine ever having to carry more stuff on my C650GT than I already can with the top box installed. Anything more, well...that's why I have the K1200LT.

Last year (before I got the top box) I did fine on a week long trip to Indianapolis with the underseat storage area filled, and a small duffel lashed to the passenger seat.

Hi, I just joined today.
I have a 2013 C650 GT, and I've been thinking about getting the Givi sidecases.
On my last scooter, a Piaggio BV500, I had installed the official Piaggio panniers. They looked fine, but I encountered a problem when trying to carry a passenger: there was no place for the passenger to put their legs.
How is the passenger legroom now that you've installed the Givi side cases?

Since I have never carried a passenger, no do I ever plan to, I had to personally climb back there myself to answer your question.

Therefore, and now from personnel experience, I can say that these small 21 Liter GIVI bags do not interfere, in any way, with a passengers legs.

I also put my 47 Liter rear box on the side mount (it will fit the side mounts too) and it didn't cause a passenger leg problem either (of course using two 47 L bags would also require a "Caution Wide Load" sign to operate on almost any American road. It would be 54" wide!). Therefore, since a 47 L bag is almost the largest bag GIVI makes, I doubt if any of the GIVI bags would cause a problem for a passenger.

While I agree that there is plenty of room underneath and with a top case alone, I just think the setup itself looks cool. Personally, I have used only a soft sided ice chest (waterproof, holds a bunch of stuff, fits perfectly on the back seat, can be carried with a shoulder strap, etc.), but it just does not look as good. Looks like a few more bucks is in order.

I am considering purchasing the Givi side panniers for my GT which already has the BMW top box installed ( apparently this should not be a problem) I only want to use these for long holiday trips. My question is how difficult/complex is it to keep removing the frame and re attaching it to the bike each time? I wouldn't like to leave the frame attached when the panniers are not in use.

An option may also be soft/saddle bags if anyone is using something like that.

Check my pictures and you will see E21's mounted on a Sport. Custom racks, made by me. Even on a sport, I rarely use them , favoring a duffle bag across the rear seat.

I needed a bit more room for 'stuff' on my GT so I got the EVO tail bag which fits on the pillion like it was designed for it.

It can be done, but I don't recommend it. It's not overly difficult to remove the frame, but you end up replacing certain factory bolts with longer GIVI bolts. Switching them back and forth would likely eventually strip out these threads.
I also recommend using Locktite or nylon locking nuts rather than the included GIVI hardware. I've lost a few bolts from the original install and had to replace them at the local hardware store. Nylock nuts have ensured it hasn't happened again.
