Mother Nature has closed me down

So it has finally come the end of the riding season for me there is 4 inches of snow over the 2 inches of ice in my long driveway so there is no chance of me getting out on the bike and it has been below zero or just above zero over night so not much melting going on and if it melts it just turns into ice, So I'm doing the count down to Spring which at this point seems so far away, Spring here in the Mtns of Vt. is usually some time in late April so I will be jonesing until then.
 
Hey, Bill, watch it. Your maturity is showing. As for me, I found myself shoveling a 2 foot wide path and added melter down my twisty drive. Of course, dry roads at the end of the drive are a prerequisite.
 
So, you California guys have to ride all the way to the mountains to be able to ride in snow? I'd move. You are really missing something with nothing but dry roads and warm temps without the challenge of black ice and wet cold snow/rain.;)

I live on the wrong sides of the 49th to have the warmer weather option. I have full heated clothing (gerbings) that can be to warm at times and I do not even plug the pants in. I put on about 600 miles last winter as most of the winter I can get out of my driveway but the city does a crappy job plowing the street. When I ride in the winter I want the roads to be dry as I do not want the salt water on the scooter. I would have ridden today but the streets are wet as we are having a big meltdown as temperatures are going up to a whopping 9 Celsius this week. I will get out riding a few times this week (oh boy).
To be a true rider you must experience all weather riding.
I remember once in the 1980's I went out riding and when I was out the weather changed to an ice rain. When I got home I got off the bike and the sheet of ice fell off of me that went from my knees down and my shoulders up (ahh good times)

Just the stock metzlers that came on the bike. I just do not take corners hard. If the posted limit is 40 I stick to it or as low as 30 depending on how cold it is or if it is a blind corner that there could be ice around the bend (no tire will keep you up on ice). On straight roads go as fast as you want.
Riding in the winter is similar (but safer) to riding on gravel roads (just it would be warmer). On gravel roads in my younger days I remember doing a 100mph on the cottage roads.
I do not go that fast anymore as here in Ontario if you do 50kmph (30mph) over the limit you lose your license for 7 days or more depending on the courts and a $2,000 to a $10,000 fine (yes $10,000) then you have the insurance increases for 9 years
 
Yup. It could be my imagination, but I think the bike starts with the temp flashing when ambient is close to freezing. A good reminder.

Jaime, you do anything cold weather tire-wise?
 
JaimeC, yes saw it this weekend both days I went out for a ride along north shore of Long Island. Great ride but below 40 early in the morning, pressed the Info button and it stopped flashing as I found that a little distracting. Stopped to fill up and it did it again after starting but no big deal, I appreciated the reminder. Now if I could only figure out a better way of stopping that cold wind from coming up thru the back of my jacket I'd be a happy camper!

The temperature will flash if the temperature gets below 3 Celsius and as you may also notice there is a snowflake in the top bar.
The whole idea is to remind you that there is a possibly black ice in areas that are in shade.
My 1996 Z3 also does this, when I start the car it will beep and the temperature will show up until I acknowledge it. I put the Z3 away for the winter and it has never seen a winter in its 17 years.
 
Hey, I have my priorities straight. Most important thing I was looking for in a house was a two car garage so I could park the bike and the scooter out of the elements. Everything else was secondary...
 
Had my scooter sitting on side stand for last couple of weeks. Wouldn't start, had to crank for a couple of minutes before it started. I think it was flooded. Has anyone else experienced it?

This has happened myself and a couple of others in the past. We had found in our situation that we ran the scooter for a very short time the last time we ran it. Myself was about 2 minutes.
 
So it got up to 51 degrees today and I had the idea of maybe I could get the bike out (this was about 12:30 today) I went and did a small job and got back at 2 pm well the 51 degrees went to 31 degrees and ice reformed on the drive way, Mother Nature is being a bitch teasing me with the weather and we are supposed to get dumped on with snow during the weekend, I should go and visit my son in Miami yeah! that sounds like a good idea.
