New GT owner on Long Island, NY First bike of any kind, it's been great so far except for an on-going fuel gauge issue which I read about in another section (will post my experience there shortly). Appreciate all the info on this forum, being a new rider, it's been very helpful, thanks!
 
Greetings, Fellow Long Islander. Can I assume you got yours from Gold Coast Motorsports, too? I've had VERY good luck with their service department and that was the deciding factor in my trading in my 2009 Yamaha TMAX earlier this year for the 2013 C650GT I'm riding now. They've kept my 1999 K1200LT running like a Swiss watch (nearing 177,000 miles on that one) so if you are a Gold Coast customer, you're in good hands.
 
Thanks JaimeC, yes with Gold Coast. Appreciate the advice, when I saw you were from nassau county I was going to ask who you use for service. They seem like nice guys but a little frustrated with how long these things take. Maybe I need to adjust my expectations given that it's my first bike and bmw so parts availability and bmw's response time seems to be an issue. Thanks again.
 
The biggest issue is that they are the ONLY BMW servicing dealer on all of Long Island. I've been to Manhattan BMW and I was underwhelmed by their service department. They were FAST, but there was always something wrong when I got it back from them. Ever since Gold Coast became a dealership and hired the best mechanic the old Precision BMW (in Valley Stream) had, I've been very satisfied with their work.

If you think BMW takes a long time with parts availability, be thankful you didn't buy a scooter made by Piaggio. According to Avi, of all of the manufacturers he's had to deal with, BMW was the best in terms of parts availability and timely delivery.
 
I own a Piaggio product a Gilera Fuco MP3 500 regular ware parts are not a problem if it is a internal engine part or suspension part you are going to wait along time luckly I have not had that problem yet.
 
Since it's my first bike I was basing my experience on auto repair where generally parts are more accessible even for foreign brands. I also had to wait an additional 3 days because the screen that gets changed at the 600 mile service wasn't in stock, seems like something they should carry.
 
Aha! Yes, if you're used to auto shops, motorcycle shops are a whole 'nother world. I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I've dropped off a bike in the morning, and picked it up in the afternoon. And I've been riding since 1982 and have over a half million miles on two wheels under my belt...
