side cases available?

okay so after closer inspection, we have a showstopper -

The brackets that are to be mounted underneath the main seat / topcase / handle, and not going to fit due to their craftsmanship. the rest of the pieces are perfectly symmetrical and I don't foresee a problem. However these main support brackets that mount beneath the seat will not mount without rubbing against the body panel, and worse, will not allow the seat to close. I'll get some more pics tomorrow.

It was the idea expectation that if I needed to make anything fit, I would grind it now, get it really nice and smooth, then powdercoat it. But, it seems that maybe, perhaps there's a problem with the jig for this piece.

Just got off the phone with a local shop and they're going to fix the bracket, R&D a little more for fitment, scan it so there's a CAD/CNC file, strip and powdercoat all of it, and send me packing... Should have something finished this week.... Just in time for the side cases to arrive.

I would be interested in what changes were made to the bracket for better fitment. I do have saddle bags on my shopping list of mods.

Thank you.

Update - My OE BMW topcase seat-rack arrived, so I was able to put together a true fitment. BLUF: The AliExpress bracket does not fit correctly. Can I force it to fit? Yes, with damage to the paneling in different places on both sides. :cautious: The fabrication shop said they can make it fit another way, but it will be a couple hundred to make the jig for the new part an fab it up. So that's going to be the way forward, and i'm going to drop off the bracket on monday. I asked for mounting instructions from the vendor, and there isn't any. I guess the design was so intuitive that "A caveman can do it" fits in there somewhere.

After two weeks (16 days), Motostorm finally processed my order (thanks, fellas) and 3 more days later the SH23 cases are on the way. Gracias, mi amigos. Grazie, amici miei!

Sorry about having not posted pictures yet, I get elbow deep into working, then neightbor kids come up and wanna help and I so, have them do some of the work (keep them off the phones and engaged), the mosquitos are out in force, weather's been extra humid so i'm soaked. So, after holding the mini-workshop, i'm ready to close it out and get a shower.

Oh yeah, one other thing - I was in need of restocking automotive tools (mine are in storage back in Arizona) so I ordered new torx drivers, wrenches, etc. I'll cover that later.

1) Sorry about your troubles. Too bad Givi, or Wunderlich, or some reputable outfit doesn't offer sidecase carriers. At least the forum members owe you, for being a guinea pig here.

2) Very complete report. Thanks.

3) I don't know if you saw my report last month, re some torx kits from Harbor Freight and Amazon, in case you're looking for some inexpensive stuff that I find acceptable: https://www.bmw-scooters.com/threads/my-torx-tools-additions-since-acquiring-a-c-400-gt.3338/

Good luck with your project.

Sorry for the lack of update; After attempting to install this bracket several times (for mock-up purposes), I've come to the conclusion that this needs a redesign all-together. I've been meeting with the fabricator and he's been proactive to help and believes we can pull it off. So keep hope alive... may get somewhere with this eventually.

I have my side-cases sitting on the back lanai, walking by them every day, waiting to get installed. :D

Well:

1) It certainly looks like this is not an off-the-shelf purchase for any other 400 owners who may be interested in adding side cases. Someone had to be the guinea pig, and you're doing a fine service to the community. I hope it works out for you; seems like you have a good fabricator working with you.

2) You recently change your userID on the forum for some reason? If you didn't, I'm totally confused, feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone, etc.

I came across these 2 saddle bag installation videos on Facebook.

Part 1

Part 2

Enjoy!
I don't have a Facebook account, but I was able to view the videos okay (after clicking the X on the login pop-up).

Very nice job that the owner did there.

Looking the through the comments, it appears that he ordered the same item that @HSG got ... but didn't seem to have had any issues with the fabrication.

I couldn't get mine to fit under the seat due to the welds being uneven. I have contacted the seller asking to exchange these, but they're not budging. In the video, it appears as the fitment is good. I have been so busy that I haven't had time to get mine fixed by the fabricator. I'm glad for that guy, the install looks good.
