What is the secret to removing the windscreen screws? got a Givi screen for my new 650 sport. Spent the last hour trying to remove the screws to the stock screen and really getting nowhere.
 
I don't know if the GT and the new Sport 650 are similarly set up but all I had to do to unscrew the screws and lift off the windshield on my GT was to remove the screws and lift it off. You are using Torx drivers and not allen wrenches. There are no allen screws on the bike, they're all Torx.
 
Sounds like the pressed in brass insert nuts are turning in the windshield mounts. I had the same problem with 2 of the screws on my C600 Sport. I used a pry bar between the windshield and the mount while slowly turning the screws to force the insert nuts to come out of the windshield mount. Then I held the nuts with a pair of pliers while turning the screw in order to separate the two. I put super glue on the nut inserts and pressed them back into the windshield mount. The problem is caused because BMW chose to use thread lock on the windshield screws almost guaranteeing that one or more of the insert nuts would turn when attempting to remove the screws. Dumb move by BMW to use thread lock on these screws IMHO. I don't use thread lock on any screws that use pressed in insert nuts.

The windshield is probably put on at the dealer, ask them, if they say they did, have them fix the problem.

BTW, they turn counterclockwise to come out.

Got them out last night. Used a power driver and a little pressure between the screen and mount. used hi speed and when they got hot they slid right out. used a little super glue and a plastic mallet to put them back in.

Wow! James, my man, that is one boat load of work. But yah do what yah gotta do I guess. I added an Aeroflow with the tools provided with the bike. I'm thinking that what Snowdog said about asking the dealer is some good advice for anyone with this problem going forward.
 
It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Maybe five minutes for all four. I'm just a little concerned about the brass inserts staying in. Had to tap them pretty hard a few times with a plastic mallet to get them back into the mount though. Yeah, I should of gone to the dealer over this.
 
I had that problem to mount the Areoflow too, one screw simply turned but would not come out. Seems like a common problem. Dealer ordered and replaced the mounting bracket under guarantee.

BTW, I work with sheet metal fasteners in my job, and find screws driven with production power tools that have "spun" all the time. This is caused by not setting the torque properly on the tool. Anyway, when they spin, it turns a burr on the screw threads, which keeps the threads from engaging when trying to back it out. Thats why you have to pry on the parts. I ,also, never drive a self taping screw all the way in, just for that reason. Finish with a screw driver to be safe. If you have lots of screws to do, start with a low torque setting and work your way up.
 
Observations over the last few days. If you have a problem getting those damn screws out on a new bike, let your dealer do it. His employee was the one that used locktite. If you remove them and tap them back in there is no way they will hold. Read the instructions on a new screen. A Givi comes with with bolts that have a nut on the back.
