It's coming up in less than two weeks! My friend finished restoring a Honda Silverwing scooter earlier this year and we're going to "Maxi-Scooter" it to Indianapolis this year. Leaving New York a week from tomorrow. We'll stop in Washington, PA the first night and will be in Indianapolis late Thursday afternoon.

We'll be staying at the Sleep Inn in Indianapolis by the airport, and heading out Monday morning to head back home. Will anyone else be in the area? You'll know we're around when you see a red C650GT parked next to a black Silverwing...

I see your plan...the C 650 looks even BETTER next to the dumpy, old Silverwing. Sly one, Jaime!

I saw one in bright metallic red the other day on the highway. It looked pretty sharp, actually. I'm pretty sure we'll swap rides at one point and my friend is going to want a Beemer too...

I put 80K on a Silverwing, and I am not sure the "Beemer" is better. It surely isn't as comfortable.

Scooter Shootout: 2014 BMW C 650 GT / 2013 Honda Silver Wing / 2013 Suzuki Burgman 650 | Rider Magazine

I get the feeling the Beemer seems to appeal more to traditional motorcyclists than to traditional scooter owners. When I see the comparison performed by motorcyclists, they invariably pick the BMW. When it is done by a scooter mag, they usually pick the Burgman. The Silverwing is just hopelessly outdated at this point. Honda SHOULD'VE upgraded it the instant Yamaha came out with the first TMAX, but they didn't. The Rider Magazine comparison is pretty much the most balanced review I've read; they really didn't pick a winner. They leave that to the reader to decide.

I think what opens everyones eyes is the fact that the BMW is NOT the most expensive scooter in the comparison. My personal review of the Burgman is elsewhere in this forum. I haven't ridden a Silverwing (yet) but I suspect I will very soon...

Hey, you'll also be parked next to another Vermillion Red C650GT as I will see you there Saturday (in town Friday night). And if I can get Spdrush to go there will be 3 red C650GTs in Indy that weekend. Hey Cloud9, haul that good looking yellow Tmax out of the garage in Solon and think about going along.

I'll be at the Marriott East on the other side of town (a corporate thing). Not the closest, but still kinda close to downtown and not really that far from the Speedway. I'll PM you with contact/time/location hook-up info.

We're thinking of dinner at the Tilted Kilt one evening... I've heard a lot about that place and it looked interesting when we passed by last year...

Different type of hooters style. No hot pants, yup kilts, kind of scoolgirl look.

Wonder if I should bring my UtiliKilt with me? I've seen men wandering around the track wearing them in years past... I just don't think RIDING while wearing it is the smartest idea. It's that whole "ATGATT" mentality of mine. When I go to camping rallies I do bring it as "apres riding" wear. After a long, hot day of riding in full safety gear, it's rather "refreshing" to walk around in the kilt.

Great conversation starter, too...

If I wasn't getting laid off next week, I might buy my old Silverwing back from the dealer. The BMW is not that much different, it has some gadgets, handles a little better, accelerates a little faster, and has a bigger engine. None of that makes it more of a technical triumph. Putting a bigger engine in is OLD technology, the OLDEST ploy in the motorcycle and automotive industries to make sales. The BMW engine is almost a twin of the Honda, the biggest difference is the location of the CVT. There isn't much of anything about the BMW that is new, it's just a newer model.

Will be at the La Quinta airport with a Bronze 650GT. Wanted Bronze because I have had 2 bikes in black, did not want an association with a new Harley product, All Honda bikes first come out in red. Saw the Bronze on a 1200RT loved it and said that is what I want.

That would be spectacular. I am fighting a conflict right now as I have to be at the PGA Championship this coming week in Louisville, about 2 hours down the road from Indy. Still planning on the Saturday night ride, but now only about 50:50.
