As i've bought e brakepads, tyres & Dr Pulley 28g sliders,i'm sending her in a tad earlier for her 20k service.Didn't know there's a problem with e rear tyre availability here in e tiny island of Singapore. However,i got myself a Dunlop Sportmax GPR-100 for a reasonable price since e Metzeler's n Pirelli's didn't have stock for e rear tyre.Got to know from e Dunlop agent here e reason they have stock for e Dunlop hoops were because of e demands from e Burgman riders here.
These Dunlops were brilliant on my Fazer 1000 a few years back with reasonable mileage to spare.I wonder how it'll perform on e GT ... hmmm...

Shouldn't that be a 24K service? I thought the intervals were 6,000 miles apart, not 5,000?

In Canada like in Singapore I would think that is 20,000km and that would be 12,000 miles

Yeah u're right.e service intervals here are at this mileages...
1000km (FOC)
10,000km (Chargeable)
20,000km and so forth every 10,000km which equates to about every 6250 miles.

My bike is going in on the 17th of Aug. from what I have seen on other forums it should be about $410 to $450 (12000 mile service) I'm getting it serviced at Max BMW in Troy NY I bought the bike there. I asked the service person give me a break down of what it should cost me, haven't seen any thing from him yet, courious to see what they are going to charge me. The thing is he owns the 4 BMW dealerships that are in my area NH,NY and Ct. I wouldn't go to NJ just to far the other dealer is in Burlington VT about 130 miles away. The VT dealer is not owned by Max.

@Bill Steele... I'll be curious to hear how you feel the quality of their service is. And also what you end up paying. I'm thinking of using their NH location for my first major service, probably at the end of this riding season. I'm not thrilled with either of the Boston area dealers so far.

If all there dealerships are set up like the NY dealership they have all the bells and whistles that the techs could need, which in turn equates to $$$ for services. I try to do as much as I can before I go there for a service but there are things that I don't have the equipment or the experience to do the work, I will do the oil and filter and air filter and any minor things the other things I leave to them. The 6000 mile service was about I think $ 240 or so

OK here it goes I just got an email from the service dept at max bmw they want $832.00 for the 12000 mile service which is mostly checking items on the bike like head light function and disk wear of the brakes and pads coolant check signaling lights tire pressure and tire tread depth lubricate side stand set service due date count down parking brake cable and brake function check head Bering The biggest thing they do is change the belt and rollers, change the oil and filter and air filter ( by the way there belt is $250.00 and the rollers are $150.00 ) they have got to be kidding if this is a minor service because the major service is at 24000 miles which at these prices will be over $2000.00 dollars it is time to get rid of this bike and go back to a real motorcycle. By the time you do all the service over 3 years you will almost have bought the bike again.

One thing I learned even with the TMAX: Scooters are NOT "low maintenance." At least, not compared to regular motorcycles.

If you take the plastic off yourself you will probably save at least $100 if not $150 (a couple of hours). Check everything yourself, a lot of stuff is simple. Tell them to just do the belt, rollers and steering head bearings. You should save a lot of dollars.
Good luck

That was pretty much my plan do as much as I can and only have belt rollers and head Bering done some of the stuff they want to charge you for are ridiculous, they want to change the brake fluid again that was changed less than a year ago. I wonder how much the BMW air is that they put in the tires.

You should ask for the belt and rollers that they take out so you can see if the wear and tear is sufficient enough to have been replaced or could you have gone further.

What are the symptoms of needing this done other than BMW's schedule of maintenance?

I told e service manager to return all used parts that was replaced so that i can inspect e wear myself.
Belt - Haven't really measure e thickness n width but at 17,062km it looked only slightly worn.Correct me if i'm wrong...

Rollers - It was indeed tired looking but not worn enough to be replaced i think...

Spark Plugs - Still usable

Air Filter Element - Usable

It appears that labor is the lions share of bmw maintenance. I think I'll be trying my hand at belt, roller, chain, brake pad, ect. About the only thing that's out of my wheelhouse might be valve adj and timing. Thanks for sharing. It's good to know what's what.

Rollers were starting to "flat-spot", as they DON"T "roll", but SLIDE. That's why the Dr. Pulley Sliders make such a good upgrade.

The belt looks in good shape and the rollers aren't in to bad of shape a lot of times up you can clean out the dust and crud at the rollers and the shoe and the bike will run a lot better the only thing is if you are going through that trouble you mite as we'll change them. The big deal is getting all the plastic on the bike off. The Gilera 500 I own I can get at the rollers and belt and use compressed air and blow out all the crud and the bike runs much smoother for quite awhile, also I don't have to deal with as much plastic as the 650 gt has.

The following is a link to the items they were supposed to check and it looks as if they did more than needed
For example they changed your spark plugs and that is not on the list till the 40,000km check and the rear drive oil not on list

http://www.webbikeworld.com/bmw-c-6...oter-20000-kilometer-maintenance-schedule.jpg

And they did not change the brake fluid as specified
No mention of the rear drive chain sag

This is why i do not trust dealers as you are at there mercy unless you are informed
