complaints filed - disgusted with BMW

Not having an inventory of spare parts for a new model is not just a BMW issue. On the other side of the PTW spectrum is my Genuine Stella 4T automatic. With just two weeks after my taking ownership a delivery truck ran into it while backing up. No animals or humans were seriously hurt in the making of this accident (borrowed from film). The impact was slow speed but it resulted in significant damage. I was told by the dealer that new parts would not be available for two or more months because it was a new model. When the inspectors from the delivery company's insurance carrier showed up to photograph and inspect the bike I am told the shop owner told them that I was a bored, retired lawyer who loved his toys and had plenty of time on my hands to make trouble. I believe that this information, their driver's admitted negligence, damage to the frame, along with the unavailability of replacement parts convinced them to total the vehicle. I would have been really pissed to sit out months of the Spring riding season waiting on parts. As soon as I get a final commitment I will order another one.

Retired lawyers rule!

My broken gas flap was not covered under warranty. It sure is bad BMW engineering now corrected.

The insurance company totaled the bike and gave me a check for a brand new bike plus TT&L and the replacement cost of my installed equipment as well as installation charges for the equipment.

Field Tech... I'm on that boat right now. Good thing is, Those Techs have a direct line to BMW to get approval for replacements. Bad thing is, they do cover a large area so it can take some time. Since he's in there, mention the timing chain tensioner and the clutch. Both are items that folks have had issues with. I have a leaky seal getting repaired and an entire clutch assy. on order..recommendations from the field tech. I'm without my bike 4 weeks. Good luck on your repairs.

Tech was a no show. Bike at dealer for two wasted days. Thanks for the tips.

CHANGING THE CLUTCH OIL SEAL
Hello everyone.
When I put the Malossi Variator, the workshop found it was losing oil at the oil seal (I don't have pictures). As you know, BMW has changed the referenced part and until July there are no new ones in Germany.
Rolen Canto in Madrid had 1 but they refused to give it on the grounds that they had just gotten it. BMW Madrid gave me the list of those who had it.
Well, finally today they have put it and have taken this opportunity to sanding, clean and kill the edges of the clutch pads. It has never given me problems, but now it goes smoother.

Dropped the bike at the dealer again. Inspection was a bit of a farce. Among the "findings" the MPG readout at the end of the test ride was 71.2, which was reported by the tech as "normal." Sent a rebuttal email about all the results to customer service but no reply.

Still being stonewalled by BMW. Decided to video fueling the bike to document the bad gas gauge read out. With the gauge showing 3/8 of a tank, it took 4 gallons to refill - yep, only had 0.3 gallon remaining. Drove the bike one-handed to video the wildly inaccurate mpg readings. Video sure does show the mpg issues but it was a dumb thing to do in traffic at 45 mph.

Sent the video to customer service a week ago. No reply.

Interesting. Any other problems with the dash or is it just the fuel gauge? That's definitely not good.

Low fuel warning light doesn't work either. Ran out of gas because of it. Was expecting 50 mpg but found out was only getting 38 mpg.

Other gauges seem OK.

I have been in contact with my BMW dealer about updates and recalls. I am scheduled next month to take my C GT650 into the shop for an update to the instrument panel software and the luggage rack and side kick stand recalls.
I have not had any problems with the BMW. I am in the Missoula, MT area.

Another indication of the arrogance and indifference at BMW. Belatedly got a call from the customer rep. He admitted no one took the time to even look at the video yet they continue to claim nothing is wrong with the bike. Jeez...

Oh, the reason I got the call? Since it's going on 10 months of futility, I sent an email to BMW Group in Germany asking for senior management intervention. Got a prompt, polite reply. The action taken was my email was forwarded...wait for it...back to Customer Service of BMW North America. Jeez...

There is a really simple way for BMW to proactively address the problems and do whatever it takes to make the customer happy...LIVE IN EUROPE. There, they have competition and so actually give a shit...

It's not JUST BMW. Tmaxes sometimes get "Tmax Fever" where the fuel pump refuses to work after heat-soaking on a hot day. Even AFTER the TWO year warrantees expire in Europe, Yamaha is replacing the pumps for free, sometimes two YEARS after the warrantee ran out!

Here in the US? Yamaha repeatedly says that they have never HEARD of any problems with the fuel pump!!! Then again, they don't SELL IT ANY MORE so why care?

Some of us might be sore at BMW for what we think is a lack of action. But, let's take a second to look at GM. They got recall problems, big big problems.

At least you have your bike, me ... Not so much. The GS, RT, and C series have all seen some recall action. I'm fairly certain BMW does care about their customers more than most. It's just an unfortunate turn, something Beemer wants less than we do I'm sure.

HOLY CRAP! That explains so much, especially this quote:

"The car division felt that they were making the profits for the company yet these profits were being squandered on the motorcycles that weren’t ‘earning their keep’. The car division staff had ideas of how to make the motorcycle division ‘profitable’. Now how could that be done, you might ask? Simple… cut back on build costs and quality control expenses, out-source production to foreign countries ( China , Czech Republic , etc.) where costs would be less than producing the part in Germany and reduce the time and expense of research and development i.e., thoroughly testing the product before it is released for sale to the general public."
